Caldas de Sangemil

The Termas de Sangemil (Caldas de Sangemil) are a municipal thermal spa run by the Camara Municipal de Tondela, set on the banks of the river Dao in Lajeosa do Dao, in the heart of the Dao region of central Portugal.

Thermal water & source

The spring waters are naturally hyperthermal, emerging at around 49°C from two boreholes (HN1 and HN2) drilled to a depth of roughly 100 metres. They are classified as primitive sulphurous waters, sodium bicarbonate and fluoridated, alkaline with a pH of about 8.4 and a total mineralisation of 479 mg/l. The primary therapeutic indications are rheumatological and musculoskeletal conditions (osteoarthritis, spondylosis), with a secondary indication for upper respiratory tract disorders.

Baths & balneotherapy

Classical thermal treatments include a range of hydrotherapy and vapour techniques:

• Computerised hydromassage baths and immersion baths with aerobath
• Vichy massage showers (general and regional), jet showers and circular showers
• Full-body and spinal steam cabinets (estufa integral / Bertholaix)
• ENT inhalation therapy: individual nebulisation, pharyngeal spray, nasal irrigation and sonic aerosol
• Dry massage and a mobilisation pool

Spa & wellness

A thermal SPA offers wellness packages combining thermal water and spa services, including anti-stress, relaxation, refreshing and revitalising programmes that pair hydromassage, steam and massage with almond-oil treatments.

Setting

The spa operates seasonally from April to November. There is no hotel on site, but the resort lists partner guesthouses, rural houses and hotels across Tondela and the surrounding villages.
