About

Caldas da Cavaca is a historic thermal spa set on a ninety-hectare estate about five kilometres from the town of Aguiar da Beira, in a pleasant valley on the left bank of the Ribeira de Coja, in Portugal's Guarda district. First inaugurated in 1924, the spa has a far older heritage, with the Roman-era ruins of a lusitano-roman Balineum testifying to the ancient appreciation of these springs.

Thermal water and source

The water rises from the Termas de S. Vicente (St Vincent) springs. It is a sulphurous mineral water, officially classified as hypothermal, weakly mineralised, sodium-bicarbonate (alkaline), silicated and sulphurous-sodic, with sulphydrated and fluoridated ionic character. The spa describes the water as mesothermal, weakly mineralised and emerging at a temperature of around 25 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Pools and balneotherapy

The spa offers a complete range of balneotherapy treatments to relax or awaken the senses. Facilities include a dynamic pool and a chromotherapy pool, Vichy showers, hydromassage, geothermal massage, steam rooms and vapour therapy, along with dedicated ENT (ear, nose and throat) treatments.

The thermal cures are officially indicated for a range of conditions, including rheumatic and musculoskeletal complaints (such as cervical, back and lumbar pain, tendinitis, ankylosing spondylitis in non-acute phases, rheumatoid arthritis and post-surgical recovery), upper-respiratory and ENT conditions (rhinitis, sinusitis, recurrent tonsillitis and otitis), bronchopulmonary conditions (asthma, COPD and chronic bronchitis) and dermatological conditions (psoriasis and atopic dermatitis).

Spa and wellness

Alongside the therapeutic baths, Caldas da Cavaca has a modern spa created to provide relaxing experiences and moments. Wellness amenities include a sauna, a Turkish bath, steam rooms and a gym.

Hotel

The resort includes its own hotel, allowing guests to stay on the estate while taking the waters or enjoying the spa.

Setting

The spa sits at around 580 metres altitude within a large wooded quinta, roughly 38 kilometres from Viseu, offering a tranquil valley setting for rest and recovery.
