Caldas da Felgueira

Caldas da Felgueira, in Nelas, is a historic thermal station set in the Alto Mondego valley a few kilometres from the Serra da Estrela. Use of its waters dates back to the early 19th century, and the thermal bathhouse was fully remodelled and expanded, reopening in 1997 with a modern thermal spa component.

Thermal water & source

• Sulphurous, sodium-rich, radioactive mineral water that is bicarbonated and fluorinated, with a pH of 8.4
• Mesothermal spring emerging at around 35.8C
• Sulphur is the water's main constituent, helping to fluidify and clear mucous secretions and acting as an anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory agent

Pools & balneotherapy

• Thermal pool with water kept at a controlled 30-32C, used for group aqua-aerobics and muscle and mobility work
• Treatment programmes focused on respiratory and ENT conditions and on musculoskeletal rehabilitation, combining immersion techniques, showers and vapours to ease muscle tension, improve joint mobility and reduce inflammation
