Uzdrowisko Świeradów-Zdrój

Uzdrowisko Świeradów-Czerniawa Sp. z o.o., part of the Polska Grupa Uzdrowisk, runs the spa at Świeradów-Zdrój in the Izera mountains of Lower Silesia. Its natural resources, on which the operator says more than 200 years of spa activity are built, are mineral waters, radon, peat mud (borowina) and spruce. The waters come from the company's own boreholes and are described as low-mineralised hydrogen-carbonate–calcium–magnesium carbonated waters containing iron, fluorine and radon; the name of each water depends on which active minerals dominate in a given borehole. The company holds concession no. 31/92 for the extraction and exploitation of medicinal waters within the town, so radon inhalations and baths, medicinal mineral baths and access to the mineral-water pump room are available in Świeradów only in its facilities. It calls itself one of twenty radon spas in Europe and one of two in Poland.

Radon water is used for inhalation, bathing and drinking. The operator states that the alpha radiation emitted by radon penetrates the body to a depth of 50 microns and triggers ionisation and stimulation reactions; that as a licensed medical provider it measures radon levels in water and air on every treatment day so that concentrations in treatment rooms are not exceeded; and that its spring waters meet the Polish norm for radon required for therapeutic procedures. The operator recommends radon baths for rheumatic conditions, the locomotor system and the respiratory tract, adds that doctors particularly recommend them for peripheral atherosclerosis and thrombotic vasculitis, and also claims gynaecological effects. Radon is explicitly not recommended for children, people weakened by acute illness, or people with tumours. According to the operator, mineral-water drinking cures increase gastric acid secretion, stimulate the digestive tract and lower blood sugar. The operator lists mineral-and-brine baths with iodine-bromine salt for locomotor disease, neurological conditions and disorders of skin circulation. The treatment profiles published by the spa are orthopaedic-traumatic, rheumatological, nervous-system, upper and lower respiratory tract, post-Covid rehabilitation, prostate and incontinence prophylaxis, voice-organ rehabilitation, carpal tunnel rehabilitation and rehabilitation after Lyme disease complications.

The centrepiece is the Dom Zdrojowy at ul. 3-go Maja 1, built in 1899 to a design by the architect Grosser on the foundations of the 1781 spring house destroyed by fire in 1895; two wings are joined by the 80-metre Hala Spacerowa, which the operator calls the longest promenade hall in Lower Silesia, with 160 metres of terraces and the "artificial grotto" that once held the pump room. The house has 248 beds and, for guests, part of the treatment complex, the SPA, a dining room, café, gymnastics hall, mineral-water pump room, three lifts, a swimming pool and a gallery of shops; its reception is open daily 08:00–20:00. Other buildings are the Sanus and Gracja sanatoria, the Goplana rehabilitation and rheumatology centre and the Wacław spa hospital. The SPA section offers a salt-and-iodine cave, a relaxation and massage zone and body and face treatments, and the cellars of the Dom Zdrojowy hold the Spa Mining Museum, opened in September 2014 for the 260th anniversary of the first casing of the Świeradów mineral springs. The operator publishes no water temperature, no pool count and no bathing hours for its pool.
