Zsóry Gyógy- és Strandfürdő

Zsóry Gyógy- és Strandfürdő is a thermal medicinal and beach bath in Mezőkövesd, Hungary, set on a landscaped site of some 11 hectares about 4 km from the town centre. It combines an outdoor beach bath with a year-round indoor thermal section and a dedicated medical department, drawing on water that the state has recognised as therapeutic.

The water

The bath is supplied by mineral thermal water that the site describes as rich in calcium, magnesium and hydrogen carbonate, with a high sulphide content and dissolved free carbon dioxide. This water was officially certified as therapeutic in 1968, and the venue states it holds a certified medicinal status. Its thermal water is used across three thermal pools kept at different temperatures for bathing and treatment.

Pools and saunas

The complex offers 22 pools in total. Alongside the three thermal pools, these include a wave pool, adult and children's pools with experience features, an experience-bath section, a swimming pool and a slide park. The indoor thermal bath is open throughout the year, while the outdoor beach areas expand the offering in season. A sauna area (the "sauna world") and wellness services are also part of the facility.

Treatments and indications

A therapeutic department has provided balneological treatments since 1986. According to the site, the water is used for rheumatic conditions, joint degeneration, injuries and recovery after orthopaedic surgery, and it is also linked to improvements in metabolism and immune function.

History and recognition

The therapeutic water has been in use here for many decades. The wider location was granted official spa-resort (gyógyhely) designation on 29 August 2013, making it, per the site, the fifteenth such recognised spa location in Hungary. On-site accommodation in the form of the Pandora Zsóry Apartments, with direct access to the bath, opened in August 2015.

Visiting

The ticket office operates from about 8:30 in the morning until 5:00 or 6:00 in the evening. The site notes that payment is accepted by SZÉP card and by bank cards including Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and American Express.
