About

Akácliget Gyógy- és Strandfürdő is a medicinal and beach bath at Karcag, in the Northern Great Plain region of Hungary. It combines year-round therapeutic pools and a medical department with a seasonal beach section, and it is run by the town.

The water

The water is drawn from a well 1,497 metres deep and arrives at 70 °C — far too hot to bathe in, so it is cooled before it reaches the pools. It holds the Hungarian gyógyvíz designation, an official medicinal certification, and is strongly mineralised at 7,011 mg per litre. According to the venue it is used for circulatory, musculoskeletal and rheumatic complaints.

Pools

Two therapeutic pools carry the medicinal water. The main building holds a 25 × 18 m pool of standard size and a teaching pool, and a two-level warm-water pool is fitted with leisure features. Outdoors there is a children's pool and a beach pool, the latter added in 2024.

Wellness and treatment

The wellness section has a Finnish sauna, an infrared sauna, a jacuzzi, an immersion pool and a solarium; massage is booked in advance. The medical department is open from 08:00 to 16:00 on weekdays and closed at weekends and on public holidays.

Visiting

The bath is open daily from 08:00 to 20:00, with annual-pass holders admitted from 06:00, and the last entry at 19:00. It is at Fürdő utca 3 in Karcag.
