Végardó Fürdő

Vegardo Furdo lies at Hatar ut 2/B in Sarospatak, postcode 3950, in the Tokaj-Hegyalja region of north-eastern Hungary. The operator's history page dates the first thermal well to the drilling carried out at the Vegardo part of Sarospatak between 1959 and 1962, which struck water of 47 degrees described there as calcium-magnesium-hydrogen-carbonate and sulphidic; the first bath opened in 1963 with simple pools and basic services, was enlarged and modernised through the 1970s and 1980s, passed into private hands after the change of system in the 1990s, and gained new pools and wellness facilities from the 2000s on. The pools page gives a different reading of the same water: the thermal water is stated to be 46-49 C at the wellhead and to be a calcium-, magnesium-, sodium-sulphate, hydrogen-carbonate, fluoride thermal water, said to act on joint and vascular complaints and to be suitable for gynaecological conditions. The two accounts of composition are not reconciled anywhere on the site.

Six pools are listed. The thermal pool is the warmest, built in several levels each at a different temperature and fitted with experience elements; the pools page heads it 34-36 C while the homepage gives the range as 32-36 C. The Acapulco pool is a kidney-shaped summer pool of 500 square metres and 1 to 1.2 m depth at 30-32 C, divided into a bubbling section, a shallow part where a parent can bathe with a small child, and a deeper part with a cave and massage-jet element. The swimming pool, 16 by 25 m and 1.5 to 1.9 m deep, stays in use in the winter season under a tent cover and serves water-polo training and school swimming lessons; its heading reads 34-36 C but its own data line reads 27-29 C. The multi-purpose pool, 25 by 33 m and 1.3 to 1.6 m deep, runs at 31-33 C and serves younger visitors and families, with a small free slide beside it and a three-part slide element comprising a kamikaze whose highest point is 8 metres, a closed anaconda and a family slide. The children's pool, 16 by 25 m and 0.2 to 0.5 m deep at 29-31 C, has water-spout elements and is open in summer. The teaching pool, 10 by 16 m and 1 to 1.2 m deep, is also usable in winter under a tent cover and is used for swimming instruction; it is headed 33 C and its data line reads 31-33 C.

The sauna world holds a Finnish sauna, an infrared sauna and a steam cabin, with a spacious rest area and a solarium alongside. Accommodation is run by the bath itself and includes the Vegardo guest house, the Rozmaring street guest houses, a tajhaz and a campsite, all of which include unlimited entry to the bath in the price. The operator gives the opening hours as Monday to Sunday, 8:00 to 20:00.
