Szilva Termál- és Wellnessfürdő stands at Beregszászi út 1/b in Vásárosnamény, in the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county of north-eastern Hungary, in the Szatmár-Bereg landscape the operator introduces along with the Tisza and the local Jonathan apple and Szatmár plum — szilva is Hungarian for plum. The operator describes the bath as built directly on the bank of the Kraszna, only 2 km from the point where the Tisza, the Szamos and the Kraszna meet, and as open to visitors all year round. Admission is by ticket, and the site publishes annual accounts and public-benefit reports for the non-profit company Vitka Kft together with a resolution of the Vásárosnamény town council. Alongside the pools the operator lists a wellness suite, a salt room, a gym, a solarium, a physiotherapy department and the ten-room Szilva Szálló guest house in the same building.

Thermal water

According to the operator the water rises to the surface from a depth of 700 metres at 45 °C and is an alkaline hydrogen-carbonate thermal water containing large quantities of sodium, chloride and sulphate. The site states that the water was classified as mineral water in 2011 and that in March 2014 it was awarded the Hungarian „GYÓGYVÍZ” — medicinal water — designation, which the operator presents as a step on the way to becoming a recognised medicinal bath. The operator states that its active substances support the healing of digestive complaints and that the water is also recommended for the treatment of joint conditions and for recreation; its introduction adds chronic gynaecological conditions and says the water assists the healing of vascular disease.

Pools

The operator's introduction describes three covered pools — the thermal pool, the water kindergarten and the swimming pool — together with one open-air pool, while the Medencék page separately pictures a jacuzzi, a plunge pool and an outdoor thermal pool. The indoor thermal pool is held at 36-38 °C and its effect, the operator writes, is reinforced by neck showers and sole and lower-back massage features; the page itemises eight neck and back showers, air blown through eight seat benches and two floor outlets, seventeen spine-massaging water jets with air mixed in, and a water mushroom. The swimming pool is given as 26-28 °C with an average depth of 120 cm, a raised water level and a capacity of 48 people. From indoors a covered passage leads out to the outdoor experience pool at 30-32 °C, fitted with twelve neck and back showers, air blown through nine seat benches, a nine-place bubble bed, sixteen spine-massaging jets with air and a water mushroom. The water kindergarten for small children is the warmest basin at 34-36 °C.

Sauna and wellness

The wellness list given by the operator comprises a bubble pool or jacuzzi, a wet and a dry sauna, an infrared sauna, a steam cabin, a splash pool and an ice well for cooling and invigorating the body. Massages are offered as Swedish wellness massage, back, foot and face massage, and medicinal massage. A separate physiotherapy department lists cupping, Bioptron lamp treatment, medicinal massage, medicated packs and thermotherapy, galvanic treatment, iontophoresis, diadynamic current, TENS, selective stimulation current, ultrasound, interference current and individual remedial gymnastics. The salt room uses Praid salt, and the operator states that salt air helps relieve the symptoms of respiratory and skin conditions, listing asthma, allergies, hay fever, bronchitis, sinusitis, eczema and psoriasis among the cases for which salt therapy is recommended.

For children

The children's basin is called the vízi óvoda, the water kindergarten, and is kept at 34-36 °C; the operator lists a plastic slide and two toy animals in it, noting that these play elements have no moving parts. The site presents the warmth of this pool and the various water features as what it offers the youngest visitors, and the guest house's rooms include two-, three- and four-bed rooms with an extra bed available on request.

Opening hours

According to the operator the bath is open from 9:00 to 20:30 every day of the week, and 9:00 to 20:30 on public holidays as well, with the pools cleared at 20:00. The gym and the salt room keep the same 9:00 to 20:30 hours. On the first Saturday of each month the bath holds a night bathing session from 20:30 to 1:00, the pools closing at 0:30; on those days the daytime pools clear at 19:30. The guest house reception is described as open around the clock.
