Selyemréti Strandfürdő

Selyemréti Strandfürdő is Miskolc's first lido, opened on 29 June 1927 and today one of the houses of the city bath company. Its main building was designed by Alfréd Hajós, winner of Hungary's first Olympic title in swimming at Athens in 1896. The bath was first heated with waste heat from the municipal electricity works next door; when the works closed, so did the lido, until drilling in the 1950s found thermal water at 45 °C. The rebuilt bath reopened in the summer of 2013 and a new swimming pool followed in May 2019.

The operator is careful about the water: its water page quotes a retired geological engineer saying that under current law the water of the Selyemrét thermal wells does not qualify chemically as gyógyvíz, medicinal water, although regulars hold it to be a healing neutral karst water. Two high-yield wells at 43-45 °C supply the bath, and the site dates their recharge to karst water that seeped underground more than 9,000 years ago.

Six pools hold 2,728 m² of water in a 3.5-hectare park. The 50-metre swimming pool runs at 27-29 °C and is covered by an air dome out of season; the massage pool is open all year, at 32-34 °C in high summer and 36-38 °C in midwinter; the bubble-seat pool is 727 m² at 32-34 °C, the slide pool 26-28 °C under three slides, the teaching pool 26-28 °C and the children's pool 29-31 °C. A 15-person lava-stone Finnish sauna and a single-person infrared cabin make up the sauna side.

Entry is by day ticket. The bath opens every day from 06:00 to 20:00, the pools from 08:00 to 19:30 and the sauna from 10:00 to 19:30, with the cash desk closing at 19:00. Some pools are seasonal; the operator announces closures in its news section.
