Paskál Gyógy- és Strandfürdő

Paskál Gyógy- és Strandfürdő (Paskál Medicinal and Lido Bath) is a thermal bath in Budapest, at 1141 Budapest, Egressy út 178. Operated within Budapest Gyógyfürdői és Hévizei Zrt., the official site describes it as the city's youngest bath, offering both indoor and outdoor pools alongside saunas, medicinal treatments and massage services. It is reached by trolleybuses 77 and 82, with free parking for bathers.

Thermal water

The bath is supplied from a well drilled to a depth of 1,735 metres, which originally yielded 1,000 litres per minute of water at 70 °C. The site describes the medicinal water as a sodium-containing calcium-magnesium-hydrogen-carbonate chloride thermal water with a significant fluoride-ion content. According to the bath, the warmth of the thermal water dilates blood vessels and lowers blood pressure, relaxes the muscles, and allows the water's mineral content to be absorbed through the skin.

Pools

Indoors, the bath has a medicinal pool at 38 °C (depth 0.95 m; recommended bathing time 20 minutes) and a pair of medicinal warm and cold plunge pools at 42 °C and 20 °C (depth 1.05 m) that can be used together as a contrast bath. Children under 14 may use the medicinal pools only on a doctor's prescription. Also indoors are a teaching pool (32 °C, 0.8–1 m) used for swimming lessons, a baby pool (32 °C, 0.3 m) and an adventure pool (36 °C, 0.9 m) whose experience elements run on an automatic timer and which has a water bar in its outer section. Outdoors, a 33-metre swimming pool (26 °C, depth 1.75 m), covered by a tent in winter, is used for swimming lessons; a lido pool runs at 32–36 °C (1 m), a relax pool at 34–36 °C (1.1 m), and a seasonal outdoor children's pool at 32 °C (0.3–0.6 m).

Saunas and steam

The sauna area comprises a panorama Finnish sauna built in 2017 (capacity 35, 90 °C), an aroma steam cabin with a periodically changing scent (capacity 12, 45–50 °C), and a Finnish sauna (capacity 6, 80–90 °C) beside which two plunge pools allow contrast bathing.

Medicinal treatments and massage

Available only on a doctor's prescription, the medicinal thermal pool bath is recommended by the site for degenerative joint diseases, chronic and subacute joint inflammation, herniated intervertebral disc, neuralgia and calcium-deficient conditions of the skeletal system; a session lasts 20 minutes. Further medicinal services listed include medical remedial massage, underwater jet massage, carbonated (carbon-dioxide) baths and mud treatment. Separately, wellness massages available from age 14 include a refreshing massage and an aroma massage offered in a choice of scents.

Dining

A permanent buffet at the entrance operates during the bath's opening hours, serving items such as coffee, sandwiches and snacks. During the beach season a drink bar beside the adventure pool serves cocktails, and three outdoor catering units offer food such as hamburgers, grilled sausage, pancakes, fried fish and lángos. Payment at the food outlets is by bank or prepaid card only.

History

The bath opened in 1989 with just two pools and, lacking covered pools and winterised buildings, could at first receive guests only seasonally. A development completed in 2016 made it a year-round facility, adding indoor pools, a sauna and changing rooms as well as medicinal services. In 2017 the outdoor children's pool was renovated with new water-play features and a new playground was built beside it, the new Finnish sauna was created, and a tent made the swimming pool usable in winter. In 2018 a relax pool was opened at the end of the main building.
