Brigetio Gyógyfürdő

Brigetio Gyógyfürdő is a thermal and medicinal bath in Komárom, Hungary, set in the heart of the city. Its pools are filled with certified medicinal water, and it combines year-round bathing with a sauna world, seasonal summer pools and a therapeutic treatment department.

The water

The site draws on water at 58 °C, which was declared medicinal water in 1967 and, by the bath's own account, has served guests for around sixty years. The water is classified as a calcium-magnesium-bicarbonate, chloride and sulphate medicinal water, with total anions and cations of 1265.55 mg/l and a pH value of 6.4. Because of health regulations, children under 14 are not permitted in the indoor and outdoor thermal (medicinal) pools.

Pools

Two outdoor thermal pools are open all year, one at 36-38 °C and the other at 30-33 °C, each 0.8 m deep, with the water refreshed every 24 hours by a fill-and-empty method. Also open year-round are an indoor thermal pool at 34-36 °C (0.9 m deep, fitted with a seat lift for guests with reduced mobility) and a bubble pool at 33-35 °C (0.8 m deep). For swimming there is a covered pool at 25-28 °C measuring 33 x 17 m with a depth of 1.8-2.2 m, and a covered teaching pool at 30-33 °C measuring 6 x 17 m and 0.9 m deep, which also hosts group therapeutic gymnastics.

In the summer season further pools open outdoors: an outdoor swimming pool at 22-25 °C (1.3-2.2 m deep), an adventure pool at 25-28 °C with a smaller slide and a family slide (1-1.5 m deep), and two children's pools at 27-30 °C with play elements and a snake slide, at depths of 0.3 m and 0.8 m.

Sauna world

The indoor sauna area contains two Finnish saunas, a steam sauna, a Kneipp treading basin and an infrared sauna, while a salt room is located separately outside the sauna world. The sauna garden adds a plunge tub, a bucket shower, a sunbathing area and a log sauna. On two days each week, Tuesday and Sunday, the sauna world may only be used without swimwear.

Treatments and facilities

The therapeutic department offers complex balneophysiotherapy treatments, which can be taken both with and without Hungarian state health-insurance (OEP) support. An elevator assists mobility-impaired guests within the building. Beyond bathing, the grounds include children's playgrounds and sports courts for beach volleyball, beach handball, basketball and foot-tennis. On-site accommodation options include the Thermál Hotel/apartment house, Thermál Camping, Solaris Camping and the Solaris and Brigetio holiday houses.

History

According to the bath, Komárom-Brigetio has close to 2,000 years of bathing culture: local excavations show that the Romans eased joint inflammation and rheumatic complaints with thermal waters, and in 2021 archaeologists identified several heatable pools and underfloor-heated rooms. In 2018 Brigetio Gyógyfürdő and its surroundings were designated a recognised health resort (gyógyhely).

Visiting

The bath and salt room are open daily from 9:00 to 20:00, with pools closing at 19:45 and the cashier open daily 9:00-19:00. The sauna world is closed on Mondays; it runs Tuesday to Friday from 13:00 to 19:45 and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 9:00 to 19:45. An adult daily bath ticket costs 4,300 Ft (3,200 Ft for Komárom residents); a pensioner or student ticket is 3,700 Ft, a sauna entry 4,500 Ft, and a combined bath-and-sauna ticket 7,400 Ft.
