Brigetio Gyógyfürdő

Brigetio Gyógyfürdő is a medicinal bath in the centre of Komárom, in Komárom-Esztergom county on the Hungarian bank of the Danube, operated by Komthermál Kft. The operator describes the town's high-quality gyógyvíz as one of its greatest attractions, states that the water is 58 °C and that it was declared gyógyvíz in 1967, and that in 2018 the bath and its surroundings were designated a gyógyhely. The complex combines year-round indoor and outdoor medicinal pools with a covered swimming pool and teaching pool, a summer beach section with slides and children's pools, a Roman-themed sauna world, a medical department and accommodation of its own, including the Thermál Apartmanház, two campsites and the Solaris and Brigetio holiday houses. The operator notes that bathing culture flourished here in Roman times at Brigetio, and that in 2021 archaeologists identified several heatable pools and rooms with underfloor heating. A lift serves guests with reduced mobility inside the building.

Thermal water

The site states that the pools hold a qualified gyógyvíz — the Hungarian state designation of a water's composition and provenance — which it characterises as a calcium-magnesium-hydrogen-carbonate, chloride and sulphate thermal water. The published analysis gives 362.58 mg/l of cations and 902.97 mg/l of anions, 1,265.55 mg/l of anions and cations together, and a pH of 6.4, with the water described as colourless and transparent with a little sediment. Among the cations it lists calcium at 140.0 mg/l, sodium at 157.5 mg/l, magnesium at 47.4 mg/l, potassium at 16.5 mg/l, ammonium at 1 mg/l and iron at 0.18 mg/l; among the anions, hydrogen carbonate at 451.4 mg/l, sulphate at 259.2 mg/l, chloride at 190 mg/l, bromide at 1 mg/l, fluoride at 1.29 mg/l and iodide at 0.082 mg/l. The operator states that the water is rich enough in minerals to be suitable for a bathing cure, and that it can be used effectively for degenerative spinal and joint disease, the rehabilitation of orthopaedic, traumatological and neurosurgical operations, and inflammatory rheumatological conditions outside their acute phase; it lists contraindications for balneotherapy including acute inflammatory states, severe high blood pressure, severe heart disease, infectious and feverish conditions and skin disease, and advises asking a treating physician before a bathing cure. The site states that children under 14 may not use the indoor or outdoor thermal pools for health reasons.

Pools

The operator's pool page lists ten pools. Two outdoor medicinal pools are open all year, one at 36 to 38 °C and the other at 30 to 33 °C, both 0.8 m deep and refilled by a fill-and-empty exchange every 24 hours. The indoor medicinal pool runs at 34 to 36 °C, is 0.9 m deep and has a seat lift for guests with impaired mobility. A whirlpool opposite it is kept at 33 to 35 °C, is 0.8 m deep and is listed as open daily from 9:00 to 19:45. The covered swimming pool, with a taut water surface, is 25 to 28 °C, measures 33 by 17 metres and is 1.8 to 2.2 m deep; the covered teaching pool is 30 to 33 °C, measures 6 by 17 metres, is 0.9 m deep and is where the group physiotherapy sessions are held. In the summer season the site adds an outdoor swimming pool at 22 to 25 °C and 1.3 to 2.2 m deep, and a slide pool at 25 to 28 °C and 1 to 1.5 m deep with a smaller slide and a family slide. The operator states that swimming lessons run in the pool from Monday to Friday during term time and baby swimming on Saturdays, and asks guests to check lane availability at the cash desk before buying a ticket.

Sauna and wellness

The sauna world is themed on Komárom's Roman past. Indoors the operator lists two Finnish saunas, a steam sauna, a Kneipp treading basin and an infra sauna, with the salt room placed outside the sauna world; in the sauna garden there is a tub plunge, a bucket shower, a sun terrace and the log sauna. Altogether the site states that the bath has three Finnish saunas and an infra sauna, and names them: the Maximus Laconium Plus log sauna at 80 to 90 °C, where essential oils are poured several times an hour; the Traianus Laconium Plus at 80 to 90 °C, scented with menthol crystals; and the Valentinianus Laconium Plus at 80 to 90 °C, with lemon-oil infusions. The Caracalla Caldarium steam cabin is kept at 50 °C, which the operator notes is considerably cooler than a Finnish sauna, with the sweating driven by high humidity instead. Sauna sessions led by the bath's sauna master are held three times a week in the log sauna outside the summer season, and also during night bathing. The site states that the sauna world, the plunge pool and the showers may be used only without swimwear on Tuesdays and Sundays, that bermuda shorts are not permitted, that men's and women's areas are not separated, and that children under 6 may not use it while those aged 6 to 14 need continuous adult supervision. The salt room is included in the bath ticket and the operator recommends it for allergy and asthma sufferers and for strengthening the immune system. Medicinal massage is arranged through the medical department, and relaxing massage is offered by on-site providers.

Medical department

The operator states that the medical department offers complex balneophysiotherapy, that rheumatologist consultants draw up individual treatment plans and monitor patients, and that qualified physiotherapy assistants and medicinal masseurs carry the treatments out. Treatments listed as performed by Komthermál Kft. include medicinal pool bathing, weight-bath traction, carbonated tub baths, packs, medicinal massage, underwater jet massage and group underwater physiotherapy; the site states that Selye János Hospital also treats patients on the premises, with physiotherapy, electrotherapy, galvanic and stimulating-current treatment, iontophoresis, ultrasound and magnetotherapy. According to the site the treatments can be taken both with and without a referral: patients with a referral book an appointment at the rheumatology outpatient clinic, while patients without one arrange a consultant examination at the medical reception and settle the bill on site.

For children

Two children's pools of differing depth, 0.3 m and 0.8 m, are fitted with play elements and a snake slide and are kept at 27 to 30 °C in the summer season. Families also have the slide pool with its smaller and family slides, and the operator lists playgrounds on the grounds. For active guests the site lists beach volleyball, beach handball, basketball and footvolley courts together with sports and entertainment programmes, and baby swimming is offered on Saturdays through an outside provider.

Opening hours

The operator gives the bath and salt room as open daily from 9:00 to 20:00, with the pools closing at 19:45 and the cash desk open from 9:00 to 19:00. The sauna world is listed as closed on Mondays, open 13:00 to 19:45 from Tuesday to Friday and 9:00 to 19:45 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, closing at 19:45; between 1 October and 30 April the site publishes a day-by-day table for each sauna, with the infra sauna available on request. The bath is stated to open on public holidays too, except that it is closed on 24 and 25 December, open 9:00 to 14:00 on 31 December and 12:00 to 20:00 on 1 January. The operator asks guests to check the news page before visiting. In notices dated 28 and 30 September 2026 the site states that the pools of the bath and the beach section are closed: following refurbishment of the well that supplies the gyógyvíz, which the operator says restored almost its original 1965 condition, the volume of water rising to the surface increased substantially and a large quantity of gas was found during trial operation, so the water's quantity and composition and the gas composition are being analysed before the technical arrangements for safe operation — among them degassing and sand-separation equipment — can be settled. The operator states that the sauna world remains open and that all treatments except the hydrotherapy ones are available, and that it cannot yet give a date for reopening.
