About
The Wohlfühl-Therme is the thermal bath of Bad Griesbach im Rottal in Lower Bavaria, part of the Gesundheitsthermen group and built on the spa town's own springs. The house draws mainly on the Nikolausquelle, a borehole 1,522 metres deep whose water reaches the surface at roughly 60 °C; a second source, the Karlsquelle, arrives at 30 °C, and the operator attributes the heat to volcanic influence in the rock beneath the Rottal. Bad Griesbach's water is a sodium-hydrogencarbonate-chloride water, and the bath describes it as the most fluoride-rich source of that type in Europe, with the full healing-water analysis published separately as a document.
The bathing area is not one large hall but sixteen individual basins, together offering more than 1,600 m² of water and running from 18 °C at the cold end — a Kneipp basin meant for deliberate cold stimulus — up to 38 °C. Between them are whirlpools and massage jets, cascade showers, and a current circle where bathers drift round the bend with a pool noodle. A gallery and several rest rooms and quiet areas overlook the water, and in good weather a large garden opens onto the view over the hills of the Rottal. Water gymnastics with the pool attendant runs every half hour at no extra charge, and the infrared cabin and steam grottoes are covered by the ordinary ticket.
Sauna Pur is a separately priced area with three cabins at 60, 75 and 95 °C, plus cold and warm showers, a plunge pool, foot basins and an ice fountain, indoor and outdoor whirlpools, rest rooms, a massage room and its own cafeteria. Infusions run on the hour, and on the last Friday of each month from September to February the sauna stays open until 22:00 for a themed evening. Children are not admitted to the sauna at all and teenagers only from fourteen in adult company. Two further areas can be booked without using the bath: a hamam with back and full-body foam massages, and a Dead Sea salt grotto held at 22 °C where a session lasts 45 minutes on the hour, with the first admission at 10:00 and the last at 18:00. A physiotherapy department and a spa-cure programme with fango, medicinal earth and exercise therapy in the water complete the house.
