Johannesbad Therme

Johannesbad Therme is a thermal bath in Bad Fussing, Bavaria, operated for around 60 years on its own thermal mineral spring, the Johannesquelle. The site combines indoor and outdoor thermal pools with a sauna world, rest areas and treatment services, and sits alongside the on-site Johannesbad Fachklinik.

Thermal water

The Johannesquelle rises from a depth of more than 1,000 metres, where the water was stored and protected between Jura rock. It emerges at the spring at 56 degC and is tempered to between 27 and 39 degC in the bathing pools; the facility draws roughly 800,000 litres per day. The water carries cations including sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, strontium and iron, and anions including fluoride, chloride, bromide, sulphate, hydrogen sulphide, sulphur, hydrogen carbonate and silicic acid. Its pH is measured at 7.21, described by the operator as in the ideal neutral range.

Pools

Indoor bathing includes a hyperthermal pool with coloured lighting, an air-bubble pool (Luftsprudelbad) and a thermal wave massage pool (Thermal-Wellen-Massagebad). Outdoor bathing includes a counter-current pool (Gegenstrombad) and a flow massage pool (Stromungsmassagebad), set among green lounging areas.

Sauna and rest areas

The sauna offering comprises a Finnish sauna (90 degC), the Roman steam bath / Romisches Schwitzbad (50 degC), the Bad Fussinger Schwitzstube (85 degC) and the Ottoman bath temple / Osmanischer Badetempel (50 degC), plus an Indian Crystal Blossom steam bath (Indisches Kristall-Blutendampfbad) at 46 degC with 80% humidity. Sauna access is from age 16. Themed rest areas (Ruhewelt) include Asia and Orient rooms.

Indications

According to the operator, the thermal water is applied to rheumatic diseases, spinal conditions, metabolic disorders, post-surgical recovery, cardiovascular and circulatory problems, paralysis, gynaecological conditions and stress-related complaints. Stated contraindications include acute inflammation, severe exhaustion, infections, decompensated heart and circulatory disease, and recent myocardial infarction.

Treatments and services

The site offers ambulatory thermal cures (Ambulante Badekur), inpatient therapy, massage and beauty/cosmetic treatments, and swimming courses. Catering includes a restaurant, a Panorama Cafe and a pool bar.

Opening hours and admission

The Thermenwelt opens Monday to Thursday 08:00-20:00, Friday and Saturday 08:00-21:00, and Sunday 09:00-19:00, with last entry 30 minutes before closing. The sauna and Panorama Cafe open Wednesday to Sunday 12:00-18:00 and are closed Monday and Tuesday. Admission examples include a day pass at 26.50 euro, a 3-hour pass at 21.50 euro, children up to 15 years at 7.50 euro, and a family pass (two adults, two children) at 55.00 euro.
