Municipal leisure and wellness bath beside the Eginger See in Lower Bavaria, with heated indoor and outdoor pools and a four-sauna granite sauna world.
About
The Sonnen-Therme is a municipal bathing and wellness house in Eging am See in the district of Passau, Lower Bavaria, standing directly beside the Eginger See and presented on the community's own website. It is a leisure bath rather than a spring bath: the operator names no thermal or mineral source, describing instead several indoor and outdoor pools at different temperatures, a sauna landscape and a wellness and therapy department in the basement. The salt water it does offer is made up rather than drawn from the ground, in a room called the Mediterraneum filled with 34 °C sea water at a salt content of 3 per cent.
The bathing hall centres on an exercise pool 0.9 to 1.35 m deep, warmed to 30 °C and equipped with underwater jets and a counter-current unit. The Granitfelsenbad, a whirlpool at 35 °C, looks out into the surrounding countryside and carries display boards on the local granite. Children have a separate play area and a shallow pool with spray jets and fountains, and the outdoor pool, kept at 33 °C the year round, has air bubblers and a massage jet beside a large sunbathing lawn. A massage fountain, a steam grotto at 50 °C, a Kneipp basin, solaria, infrared cabins and a large rest area round out the water level; the steam grotto and the Mediterraneum are restricted to visitors aged 14 and over.
The granite sauna world contains four saunas: a Finnish sauna at 85 °C whose infusions use birch leaves and mint, a Sanarium at a mild 55 °C with coloured light effects, the Blütengrotte steam bath at 40 °C with scented vapour, and an outdoor granite sauna at 95 °C with infusions of changing natural oils. A Kneipp foot basin and experience showers serve for cooling between rounds, and a rest area adjoins the saunas.
Wellness and physical therapy occupy the lower floor, including massages, peelings, an ice sauna, hamam wet massages and an oriental rasul steam bath, alongside an occupational therapy practice; a cosmetic studio and a restaurant with a beer garden and a function hall are attached. The bath opens from 10.00 to 20.00 on most days and to 21.00 on Wednesdays; the granite sauna landscape opens only on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 12.00 and is restricted to visitors aged 16 and over. The house closes on 24 and 25 December and 1 January and for one week after the Bavarian All Saints holidays.
