Vulkaneifel-Therme

The Vulkaneifel Therme is a thermal bath in Bad Bertrich in the Vulkaneifel district of Rhineland-Palatinate, operated by Staatsbad Bad Bertrich GmbH at Clara-Viebig-Straße 3-7. The bath draws on the local Bergquelle, which the operator describes as making it the only Glauber's salt thermal bath in Germany. The water is raised from a depth of 2,000 metres and reaches the surface at 32 °C; the operator attributes the spring to the volcanism that shaped the region and notes that the healing effect of the Bad Bertrich water was already used by the Romans.

The bathing area covers more than 500 square metres of water indoors and out. On the ground floor the Badewelt comprises a large indoor pool, an outdoor pool and an exercise pool, all at 32 °C, supplemented by a hot seated pool at 36 °C, along with a grotto and a brine pool. The Vitalwelt with its treatment rooms adjoins the same level. Reported effects of the water in the operator's account include improved circulation and oxygen supply from skin to joints and muscles, and its minerals are also used by dermatological clinics, pharmaceutical makers and natural cosmetics producers.

The upper floor holds the sauna landscape. Six saunas run at temperatures from 50 to 100 °C alongside a steam bath. Indoors there are the slate sauna at 90 °C with 5 to 10 per cent humidity, the lava-light sauna at 60 °C with 50 per cent humidity, a plunge pool, rest rooms, a reading room and a fireplace room; the new steam bath, Haus Dampf, runs at 45 °C with humidity close to 100 per cent. Outdoors are the volcano sauna at 100 °C, the Eifel hut at 90 °C, the panorama sauna at 90 °C and the Vulcanusschmiede at 80 °C, with a shower area, a lawn and a thermal-water outdoor pool at 32 °C. The top floor adds a rest room and, with the Eifel hut and panorama saunas, views over the bath and the village.

The bath opens daily from 09:00 to 22:00 and the sauna from 11:00 on Mondays to Thursdays and from 09:00 on Fridays, weekends and public holidays, in each case until 22:00. The therapy and wellness area keeps shorter hours. Tills close and last admission is one hour before the end of operation, and bathing ends 20 minutes before closing. Children are admitted from the age of three, and under-14s only when accompanied by an adult. The house closes for annual maintenance; in 2026 this ran from 15 to 28 June.
