Emser Therme

Emser Therme is a thermal bath in Bad Ems, in Rhineland-Palatinate, on the bank of the Lahn. The building covers about 6,600 m² and is divided into six areas: the ThermenLandschaft bathing hall, the SaunaPark, the WellnessGalerie, the Restaurant Halberts, the FitnessPanorama and the adjoining Emser ThermenHotel.

The water

The water comes from the Robert-Kampe-Sprudel, which leaves the ground at 56.6 °C. The published analysis gives 3,670 mg of dissolved minerals per litre, among them 1,984 mg/l hydrogen carbonate, 986 mg/l sodium, 650 mg/l free carbon dioxide, 550 mg/l chloride, 58.9 mg/l calcium, 35.9 mg/l magnesium and 1.19 mg/l fluoride; the venue counts more than 30 minerals and trace elements in total, with hydrogen carbonate the dominant ion. The salt drawn from this water is marketed as Natürliches Emser Salz. According to the venue, the water is used for respiratory illnesses and allergies, cardiovascular conditions, musculoskeletal and degenerative-rheumatic disorders of the joints and spine, and digestive complaints.

Pools

Seven pools hold over 700 m² of water, none deeper than 1.35 m. The indoor thermal pool is kept at 33 °C and the warm bubble pool at 36 °C; outdoors the thermal pool runs at 32-35 °C and the sports pool cooler, at 24-28 °C. A hot pool at 38 °C and a cold pool at 18 °C stand next to each other for alternating baths, and a separate exercise pool is held at 32 °C. The venue advises starting in the coolest water, staying about 20 minutes, and resting 20 to 30 minutes before bathing again.

Steam and inhalation

A Sidroga herbal steam bath runs at 47 °C with 100% humidity, and the house offers inhalation with its own Emser salt. Infrared heat chairs and a large rain-shower field are part of the same area.

Saunas and wellness

The SaunaPark has five saunas, among them a panorama sauna and a salt sauna, with an enlarged garden section outdoors. The WellnessGalerie handles massages and treatments, and the FitnessPanorama is a separate gym.

Visiting

The bath opens daily at 09:00 and closes at 22:00 from Sunday to Thursday, at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Swimwear is required in the bathing hall — nude bathing is not permitted there — and photography is not allowed anywhere in the building. Loungers cannot be reserved; storage baskets are free. An adult day ticket is 29.70 EUR and a shorter stay 17.10 EUR. The bath is at Viktoriaallee 25 and has step-free access.
