Mosel-Therme Traben Trarbach

The Moseltherme is a thermal bath and sauna complex at Wildsteiner Weg 5 in Traben-Trarbach, in the Moselle wine district of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is run by the Verbandsgemeindewerke Traben-Trarbach, the municipal utility of the collective municipality, and describes itself as covering more than 2,000 square metres of water and steam. The building combines a thermal hall, a conventional sports and multi-purpose pool, an outdoor basin overlooking the surrounding vineyards, and a separate sauna landscape on the same ticket structure.

The centrepiece is the round thermal pool in the Thermenhalle, 12.50 metres across with a water surface of 140 square metres and a temperature of 32 °C, fitted with massage jets, reclining hollows, an air-bubble bench and a broad water spout. An outdoor pool is held at the same 32 °C and adds a water bench, underwater jets and a bubbling mound. A whirlpool runs at 36 °C and a toddler basin of about 20 square metres at 35 °C, with a small slide and a water plate. The multi-purpose pool is the cool counterpart at 28 °C: 210 square metres with a 25-metre lane length, three starting blocks, a water slide and a non-swimmer section 90 cm deep, separated by a rope.

The sauna landscape holds two Finnish dry saunas of differing temperature, the larger of which runs at 80 °C, a bio-sauna at 60 °C, a steam bath at 40 to 50 °C, and a salt sauna, the Salisarium, at a mild 45 °C with roughly 15 per cent humidity and walls partly clad in salt blocks. Cooling is by a plunge pool and a shower area with cascade, spike and hose fittings, and a snow fountain. A lounge in the rest area opens onto a screened sauna garden. Tuesday is reserved for women in the sauna area.

The operator publishes a full analysis of the thermal water, which is a bicarbonate-dominated, weakly mineralised water: 223 mg/l hydrogen carbonate, 89.6 mg/l sodium, 92 mg/l dissolved carbon dioxide and a total of 411 mg/l dissolved minerals. Bathing and sauna areas close in calendar weeks 3, 4 and 5 each year, and on Rosenmontag, 1 May and 24 and 25 December. Admission ends one hour before closing and bathers are asked to leave the water half an hour before.
