Thermalbad Überkingen

Thermalbad Überkingen is a thermal bath in Bad Überkingen, Baden-Württemberg, drawing on the mineral springs of the surrounding spa town. The bath centres on thermal water pools complemented by a sauna area, a Dead Sea salt grotto and an in-house physiotherapy and massage practice. It is located at Am Kurpark 1.

Thermal water and springs

The site describes six local springs: the Adelheidquelle (a sodium hydrogen carbonate acidulous water), the Helfensteinquelle (calcium hydrogen carbonate acidulous water), the Renata-Quelle, the Otto-Therme, the Josef-Therme and the Jura-Quelle, spanning sodium-, calcium-, sulphate- and chloride-bearing mineral and thermal waters. The water is described as clear and sparkling with a pleasant acidic taste from dissolved carbon dioxide, and as carrying a low iron content the site presents as beneficial. It is said to be delivered consistently from great depth regardless of weather.

Pools

The indoor therapy pool is fitted with 25 wall jets and bubbling devices set at various heights; bathers move to the next jet each minute, giving a full-body massage from foot to neck over roughly 25 minutes. The site states an indoor therapy basin at about 34 °C and an outdoor basin at about 36 °C.

Health indications

The bath lists conditions for which its thermal water may be used, including arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic neck pain, lower back pain, pain from diabetic peripheral neuropathy, atopic dermatitis, compensated chronic heart insufficiency, and conditions such as lymphedema where movement in water is beneficial. It also names contraindications, including acute inflammation, severe heart conditions, hyperthyroidism, epilepsy, tumours, open wounds and fever.

Sauna and salt grotto

The sauna area includes the Kahlenstein Aroma-Sauna, a biosauna at 55–60 °C with a view toward the Michelberg, and the outdoor Kurpark-Chalet-Sauna at 85–90 °C with an adjacent resting meadow, plus the Brunnensteig steam bath. The Salzgrotte is an original Dead Sea salt grotto built with roughly 8,500 natural salt bricks; it is held at 22–24 °C with humidity up to 50 %, with 45-minute sessions on loungers accompanied by soft light and sound.

Treatments and services

An on-site physiotherapy and massage practice run by Brigitte and Klaus Reh offers manual therapy, physiotherapy, neurological rehabilitation, sports massage, manual lymphatic drainage, TMJ (CMD) treatment, trigger point therapy, reflexology, natural mud and moor applications, cold therapy and traction. The bath also offers water gymnastics and Kneipp installations, and has on-site dining (Gastronomie). It accepts AlbCard, Wellpass and Hansefit.

Opening hours and prices

The bath is closed Monday and Tuesday; open Wednesday to Saturday 9:00–21:00 and Sunday and holidays 9:00–19:00, with last entry 15 minutes before closing. Stated admission for the thermal bath is €14.00 for a 3-hour ticket and €16.00 for a day ticket; a combined sauna and thermal bath ticket is €21.00 (3 hours) or €23.00 (day), with a €7.00 sauna surcharge and a €1.00 weekend surcharge. Children under 6 enter free with an adult, and students and people with disabilities receive a €1.00 discount with valid ID; sauna use is for ages 16 and over.
