Bad Blau

Bad Blau is a year-round indoor leisure bath with a sauna landscape at Boschstraße 12 in Blaustein, west of Ulm. The operator gives the total water area as 650 m², spread over an indoor hall and an outdoor section, but publishes no count of pools. Lane swimming is in a 25 m sports pool held, in the operator's words, constantly at 27 °C. Next to it an adventure pool carries floating rafts and ball games, and a children's area has an elephant slide and a little boat channel, with a baby pool at 34 °C fitted with a water cannon and a water mushroom. A whirlpool runs at 34 °C. The single flume, called the Abenteuerrutsche, is 80 metres long. A textile steam bath is included in the ordinary bathing ticket and needs no sauna admission.

The water character needs care, because the operator's own bathing page contradicts itself about brine. One paragraph still says of the Solevitalbecken, in the present tense, that water enriched with sulphate, magnesium and calcium invigorates the bather. A paragraph further down the same page says the opposite: the Solevitalbecken is now the former one ("Das ehemalige Solevitalbecken"), remains available to guests only during the summer months, and is run as an unheated pool "ohne Zusatz von Sole oder anderen Mineralien" - without any addition of brine or other minerals. Both sentences stand on the page as read. What is not in doubt is that the brine pool has been replaced: a new Entspannungsbecken (relaxation pool) opened at the end of July, and it is this pool that now carries the mineral water. The operator describes it as heated to 33 °C and enriched with minerals from the Swabian Alb, naming calcium and magnesium and a salt content of 0.7 per cent. So the mineral content is added to the water rather than drawn from a spring, and Bad Blau is not a thermal bath: the geothermal energy it advertises heats the building and the pool, it is not hot water rising from a well. The relaxation pool has an active half used for gentle movement, water yoga and relaxation classes and a quiet half, plus champagne bubbles, massage jets and neck showers, and it sits in a glazed hall whose facade opens onto a terrace in warm weather. It is included in every swimming or sauna ticket at no surcharge.

The sauna department has six saunas plus a steam bath. Three are indoors: a Bio-Sauna at 65-70 °C, a Panorama-Sauna at 85 °C and a Sanarium at 55-60 °C. Three stand outdoors: the MAHTAVA infusion sauna at 85 °C, which the operator describes as seating 70 and being one of the largest in the region, the smaller Kelo-Sauna at about 90 °C, and the Lapland-Sauna, a self-service log sauna where guests lay on the wood and pour the infusions themselves and where talking is expressly encouraged; no temperature is published for the Lapland cabin. The Lapland area can be hired privately from 17:30 on Tuesdays, 219 euro flat for ten people, and the site notes that the Lapland sauna is let out every Tuesday from 18:30. The sauna area also has a warm pool, heated stones, loungers and a rest room with water beds. The site states that the Textilsauna is closed until further notice.

The till is open Monday to Friday 10:00-22:00, Saturday 09:00-22:00 and Sunday and public holidays 09:00-20:00; bathing time runs Monday to Friday 10:00-21:00, Saturday 09:00-21:00 and Sunday and holidays 09:00-20:00; sauna time runs Monday to Saturday 10:00-21:30 and Sunday and holidays 10:00-20:00, with Monday a women's sauna day. The bath and sauna are closed on 14 September 2026 for a staff outing. The operator publishes no opening year for the building.
