Filderstadt's municipal leisure bath south of Stuttgart, combining a wave pool, a thermal section and a ski-jump slide with a 6,000 square metre sauna landscape of eight cabins.

About

Fildorado is the municipal leisure and sports bath of Filderstadt, on the plateau south of Stuttgart, and it runs four operations under one roof: an indoor adventure bath, a sauna and spa landscape, a fitness club and a summer outdoor pool. The indoor water is divided by purpose rather than gathered into a single hall. A wave basin raises waves up to a metre high on the hour and the half hour, for ten minutes at a time. A thermal section holds an indoor and an outdoor basin at 33 to 34 degrees, the outdoor one fitted with massage jets, air bubblers and water spouts. A sport pool of 25 by 10 metres at 27 to 28 degrees carries the lane swimming and the aqua-fitness, aqua-cycling and aqua-jogging courses. A current channel pushes bathers through shifting flow directions, with a waterfall dropping from eight metres into the entry basin, and the children's area is held at 31 to 32 degrees.

Three slides serve the hall. The Blackhole runs 115 metres with light effects and a transparent Cristal Tube section that leaves the rider apparently sliding in mid-air. The ski-jump slide is the house signature: eight metres high, acceleration quoted at up to 60 km/h and a flight of up to eight metres onto a purpose-built landing, with a minimum age of ten and a weight limit. A tyre slide takes single or double rings through jumps and banked curves. The operator also offers virtual-reality snorkelling and an ice column among the hall's attractions.

The sauna side is ticketed separately and covers 6,000 barrier-free square metres with eight saunas: a panorama cabin panelled in wenge wood under a radiating maple ceiling, an event sauna whose infusions are staged with film on two monitors, a fireplace sauna, a gold-mine sauna dressed with rock walls, stalactites and lanterns, vital and meditation cabins, a Sanarium, and a self-contained club sauna reserved for women all day Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Three steam baths sit alongside them: a mist bath, a rasul bath and the Caldarium. Water continues through the sauna garden with a bubble pool at 33 to 34 degrees, a 60 square metre cold pool at 19 to 20, two plunge basins at 10 degrees, foot-warming tubs, a Kneipp walking basin and a crushed-ice fountain.
