Limes-Thermen

Limes-Thermen is a thermal bath at Aalen in Baden-Württemberg, open since 1985 and named after the Roman frontier that ran through the town. Five basins hold 550 m² of thermal water between them, laid out in two pavilions and an outdoor pool.

The water

The venue describes a fluoride-bearing calcium-sodium-sulphate thermal water from 650 metres down, dated to the last ice age at 12,000 to 14,000 years old and, it says, beyond reach of surface influences. Two springs are recognised by the state, arriving at 36.4 °C. Pools are held between 34 and 37 °C.

Pools

The White Pavilion holds 209 m² at 34 °C, 1.10 to 1.30 m deep, with massage jets and bubble loungers; the Blue Pavilion is smaller at 99 m² and 1.10 m, at the same temperature and with the same fittings. The outdoor pool is the largest single basin at 215 m², held at 35 °C and running from 0.90 to 1.30 m. The warm grotto pool is the hottest and smallest, 25 m² at 37 °C with massage jets and coloured light, and a 2 m² plunge pool sits at 15 to 18 °C.

Saunas

A tepidarium and an aroma sauna both run at 50 to 60 °C, and a vitalium at 40 °C combines infrared deep heat with brine. Sauna hours vary by day, and Monday is women-only.

Visiting

The bath opens at 08:30 on weekdays, closing at 21:00 and at 22:00 on Fridays, and at 09:00 at weekends and on public holidays. The building has step-free access. It is at Osterbucher Platz 3.
