The Sonnenhof-Therme is the thermal bath of Bad Saulgau in Baden-Württemberg, built on a state-recognised healing spring. According to the operator up to 1.5 million litres of sulphurous spring water a day rise from 650 metres down at 37 °C and run straight into the pools, which the site counts as seven indoor and outdoor basins between 28 and 40 °C. The house adds a sauna world of four cabins, a wellness and cosmetics department and a therapy centre with physiotherapy, a gym and courses.
About
The Sonnenhof-Therme is the thermal bath of Bad Saulgau, in the Upper Swabian part of Baden-Württemberg. The operator describes a light-filled therme of 900 square metres and states that up to 1.5 million litres of healing, sulphurous spring water rise daily from 650 metres down and flow directly into its pools. The site signs the source as a state-recognised healing spring (Staatlich anerkannte Heilquelle). Beside the bathing area the house runs a sauna world, a wellness and cosmetics department, a therapy centre with physiotherapy and a gym, and a motorhome pitch. German Wikipedia records that the spring was drilled at Saulgau in 1977 as the warmest and most productive sulphurous thermal spring in Baden-Württemberg.
Thermal water
According to the operator the water is won from 650 metres and is rich in valuable minerals, sulphur above all. The operator states that sulphur is known for anti-inflammatory and circulation-promoting properties and brings relief in muscle and joint pain, rheumatism and skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, and that the water supports the skin's regeneration and strengthens the skin barrier. The site gives 37 °C as the temperature at which the water reaches the surface.
Pools
The operator describes six thermal basins and a flow channel, and elsewhere counts seven indoor and outdoor basins at temperatures between 28 and 40 °C. The quiet spring basin is given at 41 °C; the attractions — waterfalls, massage jets and underwater bubblers — are given at 28 to 37 °C. Among the basins the site lists a therapy basin, a cascade basin with waterfalls and lighting, an indoor basin with massage jets and exercise equipment, an outdoor basin with a jet route, a lane-divided swimming basin, a Kneipp basin and the three-ring flow channel. A Roman steam bath is listed at 40 to 50 °C with 100 per cent humidity, and a salt steam bath alongside it.
Sauna and wellness
The sauna world is described with four cabins: the Bio-Sauna "Farbenspiel" at a gentle 70 °C, the "Himmelsblick" sauna at 80 °C under a starry ceiling, a Finnish sauna at 90 °C with regular infusions, and a Blockhaussauna of natural materials at 95 °C. The site lists an alternating plunge pool at 14 °C, a fireplace corner and a sauna garden next to the Blockhaussauna, and states that Tuesday is a women's sauna day all day, except on public holidays. The wellness department offers classical, anti-stress and aroma-oil massages, hot-stone and sound-bowl massages, facials, pedicure and manicure, and named day packages. The therapy centre adds physiotherapy in the thermal water, manual lymph drainage, electrotherapy, fango and courses in back fitness, yoga and aqua fitness.
Opening hours
The site gives the thermal bath as 08:00 to 21:00 from Sunday to Thursday and 08:00 to 22:00 on Friday and Saturday, and the sauna world as 10:00 to 21:00 from Sunday to Thursday and 10:00 to 22:00 on Friday and Saturday. Bathing ends 30 minutes before closing and the last admission is an hour before that. The operator states that the whole thermal complex is wheelchair-accessible, that separate admission rules apply to children, and that the house is closed on 24 and 31 December.
