Natur-Therme Bedernau is a seasonal thermal bath in Bedernau (Breitenbrunn), in Bavaria's Unterallgäu, built around a covered 34 °C thermal pool fed by state-recognised fluoride healing water drawn from 520 m depth. Alongside the thermal pool it offers a large natural swimming pond, a steam bath and infrared cabin, and a bistro café.
About
Natur-Therme Bedernau is a thermal bath in Bedernau, part of the municipality of Breitenbrunn, set in the Unterallgäu region of Bavaria, Germany. The site describes it as a thermal spa offering bathing and wellness set within the rural Unterallgäu landscape and away from the main tourist routes. It operates seasonally rather than year-round.
The water
The bath's thermal water, referred to as Bedernauer Thermalwasser, rises from a depth of about 520 metres at a delivery temperature of roughly 28 °C and is then warmed to around 34 °C for the pool. In 2018 the water was again awarded designation as a state-recognised healing water (staatlich anerkanntes Heilwasser) and is classified as a fluoride-bearing thermal water; the classification draws on a healing-water analysis dated 17 August 2017. According to the site, the relatively high sodium and hydrogencarbonate content has a positive effect on the body's acid-base balance, while fluoride is taken up through the skin and, more intensively, through the airways during bathing, which is said to benefit the bones. On this basis the operator states the water is suited to the prevention and treatment of conditions such as osteoporosis, arthrosis and rheumatic complaints, and that bathing relieves the muscles and joints. A published water analysis (carried out by SYNLAB Umweltinstitut, Kempten) lists values including a pH of 8.58, sodium at 260 mg/l, hydrogencarbonate at 609 mg/l, fluoride at 6.08 mg/l, iodide at 0.060 mg/l and a total dissolved mineral content of 882 mg/l. The operator notes that the high level of dissolved substances can discolour jewellery and glasses, and recommends removing jewellery while bathing.
Pools and bathing
The main thermal pool (Thermalbecken) is a covered basin held at 34 °C, fitted with bubble loungers (Sprudelliegen) and massage jets. Separately, a large natural swimming pond (Naturschwimmteich) provides open-air bathing in a near-natural setting, with shallow-water zones suited to small children and generous lawns for sunbathing; a sheltered lawn allows early-season sun. The pond's temperature varies with the weather (recorded at 23 °C in mid-August 2026). Free water gymnastics sessions of about 20 minutes are offered on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, at 10:30 in the morning and 17:30 in the evening.
Facilities
For relaxation the site lists a steam bath (Dampfbad) and an infrared cabin (Infrarotkabine). A bistro and café serve snacks, salads, cakes, ice-cream specialities and coffee and tea, with a sun terrace and a café/beer garden in the entrance area that is also open to passing walkers and cyclists without an entrance ticket. Outside the grounds, a Kneipp water-treading and arm basin serves as a station on the AKTIV PARK Kneippland Unterallgäu route, where hikers and cyclists can refresh themselves.
Visiting
For the 2026 season the bath is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 20:00 and on Sunday from 12:00 to 21:00, with no bathing on Monday or Saturday. The season runs from 14 April to 25 October 2026. The bath is located at Zur Naturtherme 25, 87739 Bedernau.
