About
The Kurfürstenbad, known locally as the KUFÜ, is the indoor leisure bath of Amberg in the Upper Palatinate, run by the Stadtwerke Amberg and standing directly in front of the old town wall. The operator states the bath is equipped with seven pools and that water temperatures start at 27 °C. The swimmer pool is 25 metres long with five lanes at 28 °C. The warm-water pool has massage jets and underwater loungers, a water depth of 1.30 metres and a temperature of 34 °C; the operator recommends it for rheumatic complaints. Two hot whirlpools with a continuous bench and bubblers run at about 36 °C at a depth of one metre. The children's paddling pool sits at 34 °C and has its own baby slide, a little-boats channel and a water-spouting seal. The operator's own list of the bathing side reads: swimmer pool, non-swimmer pool, Aquafit hall, warm-water pool, hot whirlpools, adventure pool, paddling pool, steam bath and restaurant. The adventure pool has water grottoes and a round seating area with bubblers.
An 84-metre "Black Hole" slide with light effects and time measurement is the main attraction; a swim-through channel leads to the outdoor area with a wild-water channel and a water mushroom, usable in cold weather because the water stays warm. Neck showers and massage jets are distributed through the bath.
A separate sauna landscape is attached to the bath. The operator enumerates it without giving a total: brine inhalation bath, laconium, 85° sauna, relaxation room, infrared cabin, stone-pine sauna, aroma bath, water world, Finnish sauna, small sauna, herbal sauna, plunge pool, Kurfürsten sauna, pool and catering. The brine inhalation room runs at about 45 °C with 100 per cent humidity and atomises mineral salts at intervals; the laconium has ten seats at 45 °C with low humidity; the Finnish sauna is given as 85°. Cooling is by an ice crusher set into a rock and a plunge pool, and the relaxation room is held at about 25 °C under a starry ceiling. A women-only sauna runs every Wednesday from 9:00 to 21:00 except public holidays, with mixed operation continuing in the "Altstadtblick" area. The bath holds the Kneipp premium seal in silver and runs aqua courses, rehabilitation sport in water, swimming courses and children's birthday parties. Admission is discounted up to 20 per cent through a paid bonuscard.
The operator states that the Kurfürstenbad is closed from Monday 7 September 2026 to Sunday 27 September 2026 for extensive maintenance and will reopen on Monday 28 September 2026; while the closure runs, the site's opening-hours panel shows only "Geschlossen" and no regular hours. Two operator statements on the same page disagree about the warm-water pool: the pool description gives 34 °C, while the baby-swimming course entry gives the Warmwasserbecken as 33 °C.
