Lohengrin-Therme

Lohengrin-Therme is a thermal spa in Bayreuth, Germany. It combines a thermal-water bathing area (the Thermenwelt), a sauna landscape, a spa, and a bistro, and operates as a certified spa resort using water from a state-recognised healing spring.

The water

The pools are filled with 36-degree-Celsius water drawn from the state-recognised Friedrichs-Therme healing spring. The site states the thermal water is recognised for treating disorders of the spine, joints, muscles and connective tissue, nerve conditions, soft-tissue rheumatism, physical and psychological exhaustion, and for recovery after spine and joint surgery.

Pools

The Thermenwelt offers roughly 1,000 square metres of water surface across a range of basins. Indoor pools include a multi-purpose pool, a therapy pool and individual therapy pool, a current channel, and a whirlpool. For Kneipp-style alternating baths there is a warm pool and a cold pool, the cold water sitting around 12 to 16 degrees Celsius. A steam bath runs at an air temperature of roughly 45 to 48 degrees Celsius. Outdoors, a 25-metre pool is kept at about 28 to 30 degrees Celsius alongside an outdoor therapy pool at around 30 to 36 degrees Celsius. Features across the pools include massage jets, whirl seats, floor bubblers and neck showers, movement-therapy equipment, and underwater speakers for aqua-sound water aerobics. The site notes a minimum pool depth of 1.35 metres. Children under six are not admitted, and those aged six to thirteen must be supervised by an adult.

Saunas

The sauna landscape has seven saunas plus a steam bath. They include a Finnish sauna at about 95 degrees Celsius, a soft sauna at around 85 degrees with salt-stone walls and an LED star ceiling, a Swiss-pine (Zirben) sauna at roughly 90 to 95 degrees, a Biosanarium at about 55 degrees with colour-light therapy, a Steinbad using heated mineral stones, a Banja sauna of raw pine logs at around 70 to 80 degrees, and a rustic sauna described as the hottest in the bath at 95 to 100 degrees. An infusion is offered every half hour, and the sauna area also has indoor and outdoor pools, a whirlpool, cold and warm basins, experience showers, foot basins, an ice fountain, rest areas and a sauna garden. The saunas follow a textile-free tradition.

Wellness

The Lohengrin Spa provides activating, relaxing and pampering massages, available by appointment. A barefoot path with nine different surface textures and an outdoor lounging area with beach baskets are also part of the site.

Visiting

The Thermenwelt is open daily from 9:00 to 22:00 and the sauna landscape daily from 11:00 to 22:00, with last entry one hour before closing. A two-hour ticket for the Thermenwelt costs 17.00 euros, a three-hour ticket 19.00 euros, and a day pass 23.00 euros; a combined Thermenwelt-and-sauna day pass is 31.50 euros. Reduced tickets for children, students and other eligible visitors are available. The bistro serves daily from 11:00 to 21:00.
