Water parkForchheim, Bavaria, Germany

Königsbad Forchheim is a year-round municipal bath at Käsröthe 4 combining an indoor leisure hall with three slides up to 135 metres, a solar-heated 50-metre outdoor pool in a 20,000-square-metre park, and a sauna world of four cabins between 60 and 95 degrees.

About

The Königsbad is the municipal bath of Forchheim at Käsröthe 4, open all year and divided into an indoor leisure hall, an outdoor Freibadpark and a sauna world. The water is plain heated water; the site names no thermal spring, no brine and no mineral content anywhere, and the two largest outdoor pools are heated by solar energy alone.

Indoors the operator lists a swimmers' pool of six 25-metre lanes held constantly at about 28 °C, a teaching pool at 30 °C, a family pool 20 to 40 cm deep at 32 °C with a fenced toddler area and a changing room, and a Erlebnisbecken at 32 °C fitted with seat jets and bubble loungers. A warm outdoor pool attached to the hall stays usable through the winter at about 34 °C. Three slides run from the hall: the Königsrutsche, at 135 metres and described by the operator as one of the longest in northern Bavaria, a 65-metre High Speed slide, and a wide Super Wave & Fun slide. A bistro serves pizza, pasta, antipasti and salads, and children's birthday parties are bookable through it at 18.50 euro per additional child.

The Freibadpark holds a 50-metre pool over six lanes, which the operator calls one of very few 50-metre pools in the whole metropolitan region, and an 18 by 12 metre non-swimmers' pool 60 to 130 cm deep. Both are heated exclusively by solar energy, so their temperature varies with the weather and no figure is published. An outdoor Erlebnisbecken runs at 27 °C with bubblers, water jets, current swirls and cascade showers. A water play garden for children aged two to six sits under two large sun sails, and the grounds cover nearly 20,000 square metres with a trampoline, a soccer field, a pirate-ship playground, a basketball court and a beach volleyball court, plus a beach bar. There are 220 free parking spaces in front of the bath.

The sauna world holds cabins between 60 °C and 95 °C: an Erdsauna of arctic kelo wood at 95 °C with a visible-flame stove, a Finnish salt-infusion sauna called Solana at 85 °C, an Event sauna at 95 °C with changing infusions, and a herbal sauna at about 60 °C. A steam bath, two rain-forest experience showers with colour and sound, cooling and foot pools, colour and aroma therapy, a whirlpool, rest rooms and a sauna bar complete it. Infusions run on the hour. Saturday is family sauna with no age limit and Tuesday reserves the Erdsauna for women. The bathing world opens daily 10:00 to 20:00, with early swimming in the indoor sport pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays 06:30 to 08:00; the sauna world opens 13:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and 10:00 to 22:00 at weekends and on holidays, with last admission an hour before closing. Indoor bath and sauna close on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January. Bath admission is 9.00 euro for an adult day ticket and 5.00 euro for children, 6.00 euro for two hours, 5.00 euro for a 90-minute sport tariff and 17.50 euro for a large family day ticket; children up to six enter free. A sauna day ticket including bath entry is 22.00 euro for adults and 18.00 euro for children aged 6 to 15, who are admitted on Saturdays only. No opening year is published.
