Tbilisi Balneological Resort

The Tbilisi Balneological Spa Resort, also known as the Balneological Institute, stands at the edge of Abanotubani, Tbilisi's bath quarter. Its building was listed as a cultural heritage monument in 1998.

Where the rest of the quarter is private bath houses hired by the hour, this is a treatment institution: procedures are prescribed and carried out under the supervision of its own doctors and specialists. It works with Tbilisi's thermal-sulphurous mineral water and with therapeutic mud of volcanic origin, but publishes neither a temperature nor a full analysis.

Treatments include balneotherapy, underwater massage, a Charcot shower, mud applications and an intestinal douche, along with physiotherapy, aquatic therapy and rehabilitation backed by medical diagnostics on site. There are also massage, cosmetology, group exercise classes and consultations with a psychologist.
