Gulo's Thermal Spa

Gulo's (გულოს აბანო) is a bath house in Abanotubani, the old bathing quarter of Tbilisi, named after its host, Gulo. It follows the arrangement of a traditional Tbilisi bath but has been refurbished throughout: rooms are taken privately by the hour, each with its own pool of naturally warm sulphur water.

There are eight rooms, from one for two people to a suite for a large group, under the domed roofs typical of the quarter. The walls carry mosaics of pheasants and peacocks and the pools are faux marble; guidebooks call the largest suite's pool the biggest of any bath in the city. Rooms for more than seven guests have wood-lined saunas.

Towels and hair dryers are provided, tea is free and food can be ordered in. Unlike most of the refurbished baths nearby, Gulo's takes walk-in visitors as well as bookings. Step-free access is limited.
