მეფე ერეკლეს აბანო

King Erekle's Bath (მეფე ერეკლეს აბანო) is a sulphur bath house in Abanotubani, the bathing quarter of old Tbilisi, a few steps from Chreli Abano. It is run by the Abanotubani Group, which also operates Chreli Abano and the restaurant Istoria, and it carries the name of King Erekle II: the operator's own history of the quarter lists “Erekle's” among the baths working in Tbilisi between the 17th and 19th centuries.

Sulphur thermal water

The venue describes Tbilisi's bathing water as sulphur-alkaline thermal water — naturally warm and rich in minerals. It gives the composition as calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium among other minerals, together with dissolved methane and hydrogen sulphide; the last of these is what gives the water its characteristic smell.

The operator states that the water is used in the treatment of chronic conditions of the joints, of the heart and circulation and of the peripheral nervous system, and that it is good for the skin and muscles and improves circulation. It also states that the sulphur baths are not recommended during pregnancy or for people with cardiovascular problems.

Private rooms

• Five private bath rooms, booked by date, time and duration: a “King Erekle's Apartment” suite for up to seven guests, three premium rooms for up to five, and a junior room for up to three.
• Bathing accessories are not included with the room.
• The traditional Georgian kisa scrub is offered in the rooms.
• Dishes from Istoria, the group's restaurant, can be ordered to the bath room.

Visiting

Open every day from 09:00 to 23:00. The bath is indoors. Cash and cards are accepted, including contactless payment, and there is wireless internet for guests.
