King Erekle's Bath

King Erekle's Bath (მეფე ერეკლეს აბანო) stands in Abanotubani, the bathing quarter of old Tbilisi, a few steps from Chreli Abano. The Abanotubani Group runs both, along with the restaurant Istoria. The name is King Erekle II's: the operator's history of the quarter lists “Erekle's” among the baths working in Tbilisi between the 17th and 19th centuries.

The water

Like the other baths of the quarter, it uses naturally warm sulphur-alkaline thermal water. The operator lists calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium among its minerals, with dissolved methane and hydrogen sulphide, which gives the smell. It recommends the water for chronic conditions of the joints and the peripheral nervous system and for the skin and muscles, and advises against it in pregnancy and for people with cardiovascular problems.

Rooms

There are five private rooms, booked by date, time and length of stay: the “King Erekle's Apartment” suite for up to seven guests, three premium rooms for up to five and a junior room for up to three. The kisa, a traditional Georgian scrub, is given in the rooms, and dishes from Istoria can be ordered in. Bathing accessories are not included. There is wireless internet.
