Sulphur Bath No. 5

Sulphur Bath No. 5 stands beside Heydar Aliyev Park at the northern end of Abanotubani, the old bath quarter of Tbilisi. It dates from 1925 and has stayed a neighbourhood bath; guidebooks describe it as a local bathhouse rather than one set up for visitors.

It is one of only two baths in Abanotubani that still keep a communal hall, the older Tbilisi arrangement, in which bathers share the pool and an attendant works the room. Private rooms are hired as well, the largest for about eight people. Soviet-era mosaics survive in parts of the building; the public rooms have been retiled.

The water comes from the same naturally warm sulphur-alkaline springs as the rest of the quarter, the springs that gave Tbilisi its name. No analysis or temperature is published for this bath. It has no website, and rooms are taken at the door.
