Terme Šmarješke Toplice

Terme Šmarješke Toplice is a thermal spa and health resort at Šmarješke Toplice, in Slovenia's Dolenjska region. Run as part of the Terme Krka group, it sits about 169 metres above sea level and roughly 80 kilometres from Ljubljana, and combines thermal bathing, a sauna world, wellness treatments and medically supervised health programmes on a single site with three hotels.

The water

The pools are filled with natural thermal spring water, which the spa keeps at 32°C throughout the year. The resort centres on this thermal well and the rehabilitation and wellness services built around it.

Pools & saunas

The site presents five thermal-water pools. The indoor bathing area has two pools of around 160 m² each, complemented by an outdoor pool of about 227 m². The outdoor park pools also include a water slide. The sauna offering, based at the Vitarium Spa & Clinique, comprises a Finnish sauna, a Turkish sauna, a Roman sauna and a herbal sauna, alongside a relaxation space called the "Belokranj Temple", with daily sauna rituals.

Wellness & health

The Vitarium Spa & Clinique is described as Slovenia's first medical wellness centre. Its treatment menu covers various massages, cosmetic and facial care, body wraps, manicures and pedicures, and baths. The resort also runs structured health programmes, including ImmunoRebalance (an ESPA Innovation Award winner) for the immune system, SlimFit for weight loss, and VitaDetox for detoxification with fasting. On the medical side, the spa offers rehabilitation for cardiovascular diseases and post-operative conditions, for degenerative rheumatic diseases and back pain, and post-stroke neurological rehabilitation.

Staying & dining

Accommodation is provided across three hotels: the Vitarium Hotel (four-star superior), the Šmarjeta Hotel (four-star) and the Toplice Hotel (three-star), with rooms overlooking the spa park. The resort's cuisine emphasises organic and locally sourced ingredients, with personalised meal plans prepared by nutritionists.

Visiting

The indoor pools are open Monday to Sunday and holidays from 9:00 to 21:00, and the saunas from 14:00 to 21:00; the outdoor park pools open 9:00 to 19:00. Indoor pool admission is €18 for adults and €13 for children aged 4–14 on weekdays, rising to €24 and €18 at weekends and on holidays. Sauna entry is €30 on weekdays and €37 at weekends (€20 for hotel guests), while a combined pools-and-saunas ticket is €40 on weekdays and €48 at weekends. Outdoor pool tickets start at €14 for adults and €11 for children on weekdays.
