Terme Dobrna is a thermal spa and tourism centre in Dobrna, Slovenia, and the country's oldest working thermal spa, with a written record of its healing water going back to 1403. Its alkaline thermal water (roughly 35–36.5°C at source) feeds indoor and outdoor pools, an adults-only sauna world, and a medical rehabilitation centre.

About

Terme Dobrna is a thermal spa and tourism resort in Dobrna, Slovenia. The site describes it as the oldest working Slovenian thermal spa, with over 620 years of tradition; the earliest written record of the water being used for health purposes dates to 1403, and the venue combines the historic spring with modern medicine, wellness and accommodation.

History

According to the resort, the water was first documented for health use in 1403, and from 1542 it was applied to gynaecological, urological and rheumatic conditions. Modern development stepped up in 1979, when a new hotel with a thermal swimming pool, a health centre, a restaurant, a café and further facilities was built. A historic spa park on the grounds dates to around 1820. The resort also holds the Green Key eco and Slovenia Green Accommodation labels.

The water

The thermal water is alkaline and reaches roughly 35–36.5°C at the source. The site lists its mineral content as including calcium and magnesium (0.0210 g/l), hydrogen carbonate (0.3186 g/l) and potassium (0.0744 g/l), along with trace elements such as lithium, zinc, aluminium, iron and copper. Terme Dobrna cites three approved natural healing factors: the thermal water, mud (fango) and turf. Stated medical indications include gynaecological and urological illnesses, rheumatic and rheumatism-like diseases, motor-system injuries, and chronic inflammation of the digestive and urinary organs.

Pools

The pool area sits on the third floor of Hotel Vita and comprises five pools: an indoor pool (32°C), an indoor children's pool (32°C), an outdoor pool (28–29°C), an outdoor children's pool (32°C) and an indoor whirlpool (35–36°C). A sun terrace and a bar serving food and drinks are part of the pool area.

Arbora SPA & saunas

The Arbora SPA is an adults-only area (entry from age 18). It offers a Finnish sauna, a Finnish sauna with chromotherapy, two Turkish saunas and an infrared sauna, together with an indoor whirlpool, two outdoor whirlpools (32–35°C), a cooling pool and an ice cave. There are two indoor relaxation spaces, an outdoor terrace with cabanas, and a vitamin bar offering detox and lemon water, iced tea, hot drinks and apples.

Wellness, health & stay

Alongside the pools and sauna world, the resort runs the La Vita massage and beauty centre and a Health Centre with a Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Centre offering rehabilitation and physical therapy. On-site accommodation comprises six four-star properties: Hotel Švicarija, Spa Suite Dobrna, Apartma Marija, Boutique Hotel Dobrna, Dependance Vila Higiea and Hotel Vita. Dining options include the Mlečna Marijanca bistro, Steak & Burger Dobrna, the Café and Restaurant Vita and Café Švicarija.
