About

Termas de Melgaço sits in the Parque Termal do Peso in Paderne, Melgaço, in Portugal's far north near the Spanish border. Its mineral water rises from two springs, the historic Fonte Principal (built in 1909) and the Fonte Nova (Galeria Nova).

The water

The Peso water is a naturally carbonated (gaso-carbonic), bicarbonate, calcium-magnesium and ferruginous mineral water of medium mineralisation. It emerges at around 15 degrees Celsius with a pH near 6. It is traditionally indicated for the treatment of adult-onset diabetes and high cholesterol, among other conditions.
