Caldas Santas de Carvalhelhos

Boticas, Vila Real, Portugal

Water temperature
20 °C

Small thermal spa in the Serra do Barroso highlands at 800m, drawing on Carvalhelhos' mineral spring waters for immersion baths and hydromassage.

About

The Termas de Carvalhelhos (Caldas Santas de Carvalhelhos) sit at around 800m in the foothills of the Serra das Alturas, near a pre-Roman castro and surrounded by the wooded park of the Serra do Barroso, about 8km west of Boticas.

The water and its source

The spa draws on two natural springs whose waters are colourless and odourless, strongly mineralised, bicarbonate-sodium and fluoridated, and slightly radioactive, emerging at roughly 20°C with a pH of about 8. The same aquifer also supplies the well-known bottled Carvalhelhos mineral water.
