The Kłodzko-valley spa at Polanica-Zdrój, where the carbonated Wielka Pieniawa mineral spring feeds a drinking pump room and carbonic-acid baths and the Wielka Pieniawa sanatorium houses the Słoneczne Termy recreation centre with two pools and a three-room sauna zone.
About
Uzdrowisko Polanica-Zdrój is operated by Uzdrowiska Kłodzkie S.A., part of the Polska Grupa Uzdrowisk, which also runs the neighbouring spas at Duszniki-Zdrój and Kudowa-Zdrój; the figures below are those the company publishes specifically for Polanica. The town lies in the valley of the Bystrzyca Dusznicka in the Central Sudetes and the operator credits it with a distinctive microclimate and clean air. Its therapeutic profile is cardiological disease and hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, digestive disease, orthopaedic-traumatic and rheumatological conditions and the upper respiratory tract. The natural treatment department in the Wielka Pieniawa sanatorium performs more than 110 different therapeutic and recreational procedures, among them mineral baths, peat-mud baths, dry CO2 baths, brine baths, cryotherapy and mineral-based treatments.
The water is a naturally carbonated mineral water rather than a thermal one. The Wielka Pieniawa spring rises in the town's pump room, where it is drunk as part of a drinking cure; it is also used for carbonic-acid baths and bottled as a medicinal water. The operator classes Wielka Pieniawa as a foodstuff for particular nutritional uses with a mineralisation level of 1,180 mg/l, states that it contains natural carbon dioxide, and recommends it for digestive and stomach complaints. The same company bottles Staropolanka, a natural mineral water with a mineralisation level of 1,000 mg/l, and the highly mineralised Staropolanka 2000, whose total mineral content it gives as 2,030 mg/l with a high calcium content, an optimal amount of magnesium and a large quantity of hydrogen carbonates.
Bathing is concentrated in the recreation centre "Słoneczne Termy Wielka Pieniawa" inside the Wielka Pieniawa sanatorium at ul. Parkowa 4, a building more than a hundred years old standing in the middle of the spa park. The centre comprises two pools with modern underwater massage systems, the Słoneczne Fit Centrum gym, the sauna zone "Klimaty Świata" and the spa salt grotto. The sauna zone holds a Finnish sauna named "Sahara", a steam bath "Tropik" and a snow sauna "Arctica". The complex also has the Zielone Tarasy café and the SPA Camille treatment section, and the company offers close to 600 guest places in its Polanica sanatoria, with the smaller Mała Pieniawa nearby whose apartments have a private Finnish sauna. The operator does not publish any water temperature for the pools, nor pool opening hours on its web pages: entry is priced in a downloadable price list, which sells single pool admission from Monday to Sunday (first hour 20.00 zł normal, 18.00 zł reduced, then 0.30 zł a minute), a combined pool-and-sauna "Tropikalna Wyspa" ticket of 60 minutes for 39.00 zł, a full-day Full Open ticket for 90.00 zł, and gives the Słoneczne Fit Centrum's own hours as Monday to Saturday 15:00–21:00 and Sunday 10:00–21:00.
