Zalakaros Gyógy- és Élményfürdő

Zalakaros Gyógy- és Élményfürdő is a thermal spa in Zalakaros, Hungary, built around a mineral-rich thermal spring. It brings together a medicinal treatment section, a covered therapeutic bath, an experience-bath complex, a sauna world, an outdoor beach area and a slide park on a single site at Termál út 4.

The water

The spa is supplied by a single thermal spring that feeds the entire complex. The water is described as an alkaline-chloride, hydrogen-carbonate water containing iodine, bromine and hydrogen sulphide, together with notable levels of fluoride, boric acid and metasilicic acid. The venue characterises this combination of minerals and trace elements as unusually varied within Europe. The Hungarian Ministry of Health has recognised the spa as a medicinal bath since 1978.

Medical indications

According to the spa, the medicinal water is recommended for a wide range of conditions, including musculoskeletal complaints such as joint disease, rheumatism, osteoporosis and spinal disorders; recovery after sports injuries, fractures and joint surgery; neurological problems such as sciatica and nerve pain; chronic gynaecological inflammation and menopausal symptoms; upper-respiratory conditions; metabolic conditions including gout and diabetes; peripheral circulatory narrowing; and chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis. The spa also lists contraindications, among them acute infections, pregnancy, open wounds, clotting disorders and recent heart attack or stroke.

Pools & saunas

The covered indoor bath contains two medicinal thermal-water pools plus a cold-water pool suited to gentle swimming; this year-round covered facility opened in 1975. The experience bath offers more than twenty water attractions, with pool water kept at roughly 28-32°C and outdoor pools that stay warm through the winter; features include a black tube slide, water jets and umbrellas, standing, sitting and lying massage jets, neck showers and bubble baths. A sauna world links the experience area to the children's zone and includes a panoramic Finnish sauna and a children's sauna run at a gentler 40-45°C.

Facilities

Beyond the pools, the spa provides a wellness section with sauna, wellness treatments and a fitness and beauty area, a medical (gyógyászat) department offering therapeutic treatments including NEAK-supported care, and family-oriented facilities comprising a children's world, an outdoor beach (strand) and an adrenaline slide park. On-site there is a thermal bath hotel and catering/dining. A mobile app is available for news and discounts.

Visiting

The spa is open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 to 19:00 and Friday to Sunday from 9:00 to 20:00. Discounted tickets are advertised from 4,900 HUF, with online payment accepted via SimplePay, major cards and the SZÉP card.
