About

Csokonya Thermal is a medicinal thermal bath and spa with its own accommodation in Csokonyavisonta, Hungary. According to the venue's site it received official therapeutic-bath (gyogyfurdo) designation in 2005, and its grounds cover roughly 9.7 hectares.

The water

The thermal water is drawn from a borehole reaching about 1,800 metres deep, first struck in 1943 during oil exploration, with locals bathing in it from 1945. The site gives the source water temperature as 75-76 C. It is described as an alkaline hydrogen-carbonate type that is weakly iodised and sulfurous, with a high iodide and fluoride content; stated values include sodium about 980 mg/L, bicarbonate about 2,170 mg/L, iodide about 1.6 mg/L and fluoride about 4.9 mg/L. The venue lists the water as beneficial for degenerative joint and spinal conditions and post-surgical musculoskeletal rehabilitation, certain circulatory and gynaecological complaints, gastrointestinal and bile-duct problems, and skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Pools & saunas

The site describes both outdoor and indoor pools. Outdoors it lists two thermal pools at 35-37 C (100 cm deep), a paddling pool at 32-36 C, a children's pool at 22-26 C, an adventure pool at 28-32 C (130 cm) fitted with water jets, bubbling zones and a water mushroom, a training pool at 24-26 C, and a swimming pool reaching 190-245 cm in depth. Indoors there are two further thermal pools at 35-37 C plus a 20 C plunge pool used with the sauna. A large water slide is also noted. The sauna area is described as four-season and four-person, with a Finnish sauna (roughly 70-100 C) and an infrared sauna (roughly 40-60 C), a cold-water plunge between sessions, and what the site calls the region's largest salt room for respiratory regeneration. Children under 14 are not permitted to use the sauna.

Treatments & facilities

Alongside bathing, the venue offers medical treatments including therapeutic-pool bathing for degenerative bone and joint complaints, medical massage, and underwater jet massage, and the site references carbonated baths, weight/therapeutic baths and a medical office for specialist consultations. Treatments covered by Hungarian health insurance (OEP) are available. On-site accommodation can host up to 99 guests across apartment houses and rooms in the main building, offered self-catering or half-board with breakfast; every stay includes complimentary thermal-bath entry.

Visiting

The bath is at Furdo ter 1, Csokonyavisonta. Room rates without meals are listed from about 25,000 to 45,000 HUF per night, and multi-night packages with meals and bath entry range roughly from 139,000 to 339,000 HUF depending on season and group size, plus a tourism tax of 500 HUF per adult per night.
