Aquae Iasae Varaždinske Toplice

Bazeni Minerva sit at Varaždinske Toplice, a spa town in northern Croatia whose thermal springs have been valued since antiquity. The complex combines outdoor and indoor pools with the town's medical rehabilitation facilities, drawing on natural mineral water that emerges hot from the ground.

Thermal water

The spring water reaches a source temperature of 56.7 °C. It is a mineralised thermal water with a total mineralisation of about 1,039.7 mg per litre and a pH of 6.6. Its composition is dominated by calcium (137 mg/L), bicarbonate (475 mg/L), sulphate (173.5 mg/L), sodium (100 mg/L) and magnesium (23 mg/L), placing it in the calcium–bicarbonate–sulphate group. The water also carries dissolved hydrogen sulphide (H2S, 5.7 mg/L), giving it a sulphurous character, along with silicic acid (46.8 mg/L).

Pools and facilities

The site offers both outdoor and indoor pools. On-site facilities include the Minerva accommodation and the Diana à la carte restaurant, and the resort provides rehabilitation and medical wellness services. Note: at the time of research the Minerva accommodation and both the outdoor and indoor pools were closed for a renovation project.

Therapy

The associated hospital carries out treatment of conditions related to the locomotor system, and the water is used for rheumatic indications.

Visiting

When operational, the pools open from 9:00 to 20:00. Adult day tickets run 8.50–9.50 EUR and children aged 5–15 pay 6.60–7.50 EUR, with children under 5 admitted free. Multi-ticket blocks of 20 (113.00 EUR adult, 87.00 EUR children/retirees) and annual passes (663.00 EUR) are also available, along with family packages and extras such as towel and hair-dryer rental and table tennis.
