About
Nagykátai Gyógy- és Strandfürdő is a medicinal and open-air bath (gyógy- és strandfürdő) in Nagykáta, Hungary, at Jászberényi út 88. The complex is laid out across a landscaped area of 5.3 hectares and combines a covered bathhouse with a summer beach section, drawing on the site's own certified medicinal thermal water.
The water
The bath's thermal water, marketed as "Káta-víz," received official medicinal-water (gyógyvíz) certification in 2002. It is classified as a sodium-chloride and bicarbonate water carrying iodine, fluoride and metaboric acid, with a total dissolved mineral content of roughly 5,053 mg/l. Its principal constituents include bicarbonate (about 1,730 mg/l), sodium (about 1,590 mg/l) and chloride (about 1,500 mg/l), alongside smaller amounts of fluoride, iodide, iron and other ions. The thermal water reaches the pools at 37-39 °C. According to the bath, the water is used to help with chronic joint inflammation, degenerative joint changes, spinal and musculoskeletal complaints, nerve pain and inflammation, and recovery after injuries, fractures, surgery and sports strain.
Pools
The site describes nine pools spread between the indoor bathhouse and the outdoor strand. Outdoors there is a swimming pool measuring 33.3 by 16.5 metres with a depth of 160 cm, intended for regular exercise and swimming; a teaching pool for lessons and getting used to the water; a children's pool with play features such as slides, tipping buckets and a current channel; and a very shallow baby pancsoló for infants and toddlers. An outdoor thermal pool holds the medicinal water at 37-39 °C. Indoors, the bathhouse contains a covered thermal pool open year-round for therapeutic use, plus an experience pool with activity features. A children's play pool of 314 m² is also part of the complex.
Facilities
Beyond bathing, the venue offers sauna programmes (szaunaszeánsz) using essential oils, along with massage, aqua fitness classes and baby swimming lessons. A guest house (vendégház) is available year-round, and the bath describes its grounds as accessible for wheelchair users.
Visiting
The bathhouse is open daily from 09:00 to 20:00, while the summer beach section runs from 08:30 to 19:00. Bathhouse admission is stated at 4,600 HUF for a full-day adult ticket (3,600 HUF for local residents), with discounted rates for seniors, students and children, three-hour and after-16:00 tickets, ten-entry passes and family packages.
