About
Egri Termálfürdő (Eger Thermal Bath) is a thermal and open-air bath complex in Eger, Hungary, on Petőfi Square. The venue opened in 1932 and today occupies a park of about 5 hectares, combining year-round covered pools with seasonal open-air bathing. Its waters are officially recognised as medicinal.
The water
The bath draws on two natural waters used side by side throughout the year: a radon-rich curative water and a sulphurous thermal water. The thermal water reaches bathing temperatures of up to around 37 C in the warmest sitting pool, while the pebbled curative pool is kept cooler, between 22 and 26 C.
Pools & saunas
The complex offers 13 pools of different characters. Among them are a large pebbled curative pool (32×24 m, 22–26 C), a sitting thermal water pool (25×14 m, about 37 C), separate children's and adult curative pools at around 29 C, and two indoor bath-house pools running from roughly 32 up to 37 C. A 50×21 m competition pool (2.25 m deep, about 26 C) serves swimmers. For play there is a covered-and-open adventure pool (25×25 m, about 31 C) fitted with 27 adventure elements, a seasonal children's adventure pool, a baby pool, and a slide area with close to 200 metres of slides across three slide types. A separate sauna is available (offered as its own all-day ticket).
Facilities
The grounds include sports fields and a playground, and the bath connects directly to the adjacent Turkish Bath, which can be added to a visit. A landmark of the park is an oriental sycamore more than 250 years old, voted Tree of the Year in Hungary in 2012 and in Europe in 2013. The layout separates a quieter, thermal-water northern section from a child-friendly southern area.
Visiting
The thermal spa is open daily from 09:00 to 20:00 (pools close to entry at 19:30). Day tickets are priced at 5,500 HUF for adults and 4,400 HUF for children (over 4), students and pensioners, with an evening ticket from 4 pm at 3,200 HUF and an early morning swim ticket at 1,000 HUF. Add-ons include Turkish Bath access (4,000 HUF) and an all-day sauna ticket (2,000 HUF); family packages and a 10% discount for groups of 20 or more are also offered.
