TABBS Wellness- & Sparessort

Water parkBad Tabarz, Thuringia, Germany

TABBS is the year-round indoor and outdoor bath of the Thuringian spa town of Bad Tabarz, combining a leisure pool, a 25 m sports pool, a children's pool, an outdoor section and a sauna area with three cabins and two steam baths.

About

TABBS in Bad Tabarz calls itself a „Sport- und Gesundheitsbad“ – a sport and health bath – and is run by the municipal body Kur- und Reiseverkehr Bad Tabarz kÄöR at Schwimmbadweg 10. The bath is one part of a larger house that also holds a gym, physiotherapy and occupational therapy rooms, a Kneipp and naturopathy centre and a catering outlet; the operator states that the water area measures „1.400 m² im Sommer und 1.000 m² Wasserfläche im Winter“.

The bath pages enumerate the pools rather than giving a total. There is an Erlebnisbecken (leisure pool) 1.35 m deep and heated to 30°C with water spouts, massage jets, floor bubblers, whirl loungers and a large current channel; a four-lane Sportbecken 25 m long at 27°C; a Kinderbecken/Planschbecken at 32°C, 20–90 cm deep, with a children's slide, floor bubbles and water play discs; and an Ausschwimmbecken that connects the leisure pool to the open air and is likewise kept at 30°C in summer and winter. From May to September a 400 m² outdoor pool with its own separate paddling pool and a large lawn is open as a Freibad.

The water is plain heated water: nowhere does the operator claim a thermal spring, a well or mineral water for the swimming pools, and „Bad“ in Bad Tabarz refers to the town's Kneipp tradition rather than to a hot source. Brine appears only as a separate circuit – the sauna yard has a Sole Whirlpool at 34°C whose water „befindet sich in unserem Solekreislauf“, the steam cabin Tabarzer Solebad releases a brine mist at 45°C, and course descriptions refer to a Solebecken of warm salt water. That Solebecken is not listed among the pools on the bath page, so the site's own enumeration and its course pages do not fully agree.

The sauna area is described as three differently tempered cabins plus two steam baths: Thüringer Rennsteig Sauna at 90°C for up to 45 guests with hourly infusions, Tabarzer Waldkräuter Sauna at 80°C for about 15 guests, Benediktiner Sauna at 65°C for up to 25 people, and the steam rooms Arenaris Bad at 40–45°C and Tabarzer Solebad at 45°C. A rest house, a plunge pool with seasonally varying temperature and the brine whirlpool complete the circuit.

Bath and sauna are open Monday to Wednesday and Saturday to Sunday 9:00–21:00 and Thursday to Friday 9:00–22:00; early swimming in the sports pool runs Monday and Wednesday 7:00–9:00 outside Thuringian public holidays, and the Freibad opens from 1 May. Published admission for the bath area is 11.00 € for adults and 5.50 € for children up to 15 for 1.5 hours, 14.00 € and 7.50 € for three hours, and 17.00 € and 10.50 € for a day ticket; children under 99 cm are free, and a combined sauna and bath ticket costs 18.00 € for 1.5 hours, 21.00 € for three hours. More than 120 courses a week run in the water and in the gym.
