About

The Avenida-Therme stands at Am Stausee 1 in Hohenfelden, on the bank of the reservoir midway between Erfurt and Weimar, and is run as an owner-managed family business. The operator counts around 1,000 square metres of water surface across indoor and outdoor basins. The indoor hall is built around a volcano containing underwater loungers, with lagoon water at 30 to 32 degrees, current channels that carry bathers from the inside pool out into the open air, geysers, water cannons, waterfalls used as neck massages, and a wooden ship called La Paloma serving as a climbing playground. A children's pool is held at about 34 degrees with its own small slide, and two whirlpools, the panorama pool and the lighthouse pool, are heated to roughly 36 degrees.

Outdoors a current channel runs through an artificial rock grotto with a waterfall at 30 to 32 degrees, encircling a raised pool fitted with massage jets. Beyond the water there is a sun terrace, a lawn with an open view of the reservoir, a beach volleyball court, two weatherproof table tennis tables and free lawn games. Four slides serve the bath: the 107 metre Black Hole with light effects from age six, the steep Kamikaze from age eight, a Turbo slide of over 50 metres from age ten, and the 123 metre Crazy River tyre slide from age twelve. The slides run to their own timetable, most of them to 21:30 but only to 19:45 on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The sauna world is themed on the Balearics and its cabins carry Spanish names. Casa del Evento is the event sauna at around 85 degrees with room for more than fifty people; Casa del Aire is the indoor Finnish infusion sauna at around 95 degrees; Hacienda con Fuego is a wood-fired stone pine cabin in the sauna garden at around 85 degrees; Casa de las Hierbas is a cedar herbal sauna at about 80 degrees; Finca Elegancia is a nature-sound sauna at 90 degrees with birdsong and intermittent aroma release; and Casa del Sol is a bio sauna at a mild 60 degrees and roughly 50 per cent humidity with changing colour light. Sauna access is tied to a bath ticket, since there is no separate entrance. The bath opens all year, daily from 10:00 to 22:00, and shortens to 10:00 to 14:00 on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve; on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 20:00 the whole leisure and family bath switches to textile-free bathing, outside Thuringian school holidays and public holidays. A wellness department with massages and a hammam, four food outlets and barrier-free access with a pool lift complete the site.
