About
Südpfalz Therme is a mineral thermal bath in Bad Bergzabern, in Germany's Palatinate region. It combines indoor and outdoor thermal pools with a large themed sauna area, a salt grotto and a range of wellness and therapy treatments.
The water
The thermal water comes from the site's own Petronella springs and is drawn from a depth of around 450 metres. The bath states it has used this mineral-rich water for over 50 years. According to the venue, the water carries curative and healing effects for the whole body and is recommended for rheumatic complaints, joint and spine deformities, intervertebral disc problems, conditions following fractures, injuries to ligaments, muscles and nerves, spastic or flaccid paralysis, and general pain or muscle tension. The bath is a certified medicinal thermal facility.
Pools
There are three thermal pools, all kept at 32 °C: an indoor pool, an outdoor pool and an activity pool. The indoor pool has a mirrored ceiling and LED lighting. The outdoor pool offers bubble loungers, bubble bays, floating areas, neck showers and massage jets. The activity pool is used for therapeutic movement, reserved for courses and therapy on weekdays and open to the public at weekends.
Sauna
The sauna landscape covers more than 1,500 m² and holds five themed saunas alongside cooling and rest areas. They include the Wald-Sauna (forest sauna, about 90 °C) with a large stone oven, the Wiesensauna (meadow sauna, about 85 °C) with views over the spa park, the Riesling-Sauna (about 80 °C) styled as a Palatinate wine cellar, the Rosen/Ruusu® rose sauna (about 75 °C) with rose quartz, and the Aroma-Licht-Bad (about 60 °C) for gentler sweating with changing light and scents. A Montanus grotto provides a steam bath with peeling applications. Facilities include a sauna roof garden, an ice fountain, plunge pools and showers, and rest lounges. Hourly infusions with essential oils are offered, and the sauna area is clothing-optional, with Tuesdays reserved for women.
Wellness & treatments
The spa offers facial and body treatments, cosmetic services, massages and baths, couple packages and physiotherapy. A salt grotto uses Dead Sea salt stones sourced from Jordan.
Visiting
The bath and sauna are open daily from 9:00, closing at 22:00 Sunday to Thursday and at 23:00 on Friday and Saturday; bathing and sauna use end 20 minutes before closing. It is closed on 24–25 December and 1 January. Thermal-bath admission ranges from €14 for two hours to €17.50 for a day pass; combined thermal bath and sauna tickets range from €20 for two hours to €28.50 for a day pass. Children aged 2 to 15 receive 30% off all admission prices when accompanied by an adult. A "Wohlfühltag" package combining bath, sauna and salt grotto costs €36.50.
