Felsland Badeparadies & Saunawelt
A family leisure bath with a large slide and an 8,000 m² sauna world at Dahn in the Palatinate Forest, combining a Finnish sauna village in a birch wood with a classic indoor sauna landscape.
About
Felsland Badeparadies & Saunawelt stands at Eybergstr. 1 in 66994 Dahn, inside the Palatinate Forest biosphere reserve, reached from the B10 via Hinterweidenthal. It is run as two separately ticketed halves: a family bathing paradise and a sauna world.
The operator describes the bathing hall only in general terms, as a bath with numerous well-tempered swimming and bathing pools, a giant slide and many water attractions, open summer and winter, with water gymnastics Monday to Friday at 9:30. No pool count, pool sizes, water temperatures or slide length are published anywhere on the site, so none can be given here; the Baden page carries no further detail than that one sentence. The water is ordinary heated pool water. Neither the homepage, the Baden page, the sauna pages nor the prices page mentions a thermal spring, a borehole, a water analysis or a brine pool; the only brine on the premises is Himalayan brine-salt rock used on the stove of the Panorama sauna for infusions.
The sauna world is the better documented half, covering more than 8,000 m² and split between a Finnish sauna village set in a birch wood and a classic indoor sauna landscape. In the village stand a large Finnish sauna house built from up to 300-year-old Kelo trunks, where the ceiling temperature is 100 °C and the whole building forms one single sauna; a hexagonal Kelo Panorama sauna with a continuous window front at around 85 °C; the Biothermium, an underground brick and clay-plaster vault where guests lie directly on heated stones rather than in heated air, so the operator explicitly states it is not a sauna in the conventional sense; a large rest house; a natural bathing area; a water house with foot pools, experience showers and Kneipp hoses indoors and out; and a rock shower. The freestanding Kräuterhaus herb cabin runs at 75–85 °C, with fresh herbs brewed in a large copper bowl over the stove.
The indoor sauna area holds the Kristallsauna, whose massive column stove is filled with 400 kg of Finnish deep rock and lit by Himalayan salt crystals, with walls and ceiling of Weymouth pine and lime benches; a Sanarium® run at 58 °C with raised humidity, coloured light and aromatised steam bursts; and two steam baths at a stated 45 to 48 °C — a round herb steam bath under a starry ceiling holding about ten guests at 40 to 45 °C, and a flower steam bath with five heated individual seats. Also indoors are a rest room where talking is allowed, an ice bear dispensing ice chips, experience showers, a cold-water cooling area, a balcony, foot-warming pools and a fireside restaurant. The two operator pages disagree on the name of that sauna restaurant: the homepage calls it "Avocado" and the sauna page calls it "Laai Kanok Paradies" in otherwise identical wording. The operator states that the sauna world has been awarded the German Sauna Association's highest Premium quality rating for the fifth time.
The bath is open Monday to Saturday 09:00–21:00 and Sunday and public holidays 09:00–20:00; the sauna Monday to Saturday 10:00–22:00 and Sunday and holidays 10:00–20:00, with Monday reserved as a women-only sauna except on public holidays, when it is mixed. Tills close at 20:00 Monday to Saturday and 18:30 on Sundays and holidays. Admission to the bath is €4.50 for adults and €2.50 for children and young people aged 4 to 15 for up to two hours, and €7.50 and €4.00 for day tickets, with reduced rates of €3.30 and €6.00 and a year-round family day ticket at €7 per adult plus €3.00 per child. Sauna day tickets, which include use of the swimming bath, are €25.00 for adults, €21.00 reduced and for 10- to 15-year-olds, €15.00 for children aged 4 to 9 accompanied by an adult sauna guest, and €18.00 on the after-work tariff on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 17:30. A camper-van pitch is also operated on the site.
