About
Caracalla Therme is a thermal bathing and sauna spa in Baden-Baden, Germany. It opened in 1985 and spreads across roughly 5,000 square metres of bathing landscape, with indoor and outdoor pools drawing on the town's natural thermal springs. The operator certifies the water as suitable for medicinal use, with indications for circulatory and musculoskeletal conditions.
The water
The thermal water rises from springs at the foot of the Florentinerberg, emerging at the source at around 95 degrees Celsius before being cooled for bathing. Its principal dissolved minerals include chloride, fluoride, iron and sodium. The spa states it supplies about 800,000 litres of fresh thermal water each day, and the water surface across the facility covers more than 900 square metres, with a maximum bathing depth of 1.35 metres.
Pools
The main indoor pool sits beneath a large dome and is kept at about 34 degrees Celsius, fitted with 29 massage jets set at varying heights along with neck showers and air-jet features. Outside, a large pool at around 32 degrees Celsius offers a current channel, a water mushroom and two whirlpools at 38 degrees Celsius, while a smaller outdoor pool is held at about 35 degrees Celsius with spout seats, spout loungers, massage jets and a waterfall. Additional water features include a hot-and-cold grotto that alternates between 38 and 18 degrees to stimulate circulation, an aroma steam bath at 43 degrees with full humidity, and a brine inhalation room at 28 to 30 degrees using a natural salt solution.
Sauna landscape
The sauna area is textile-free and comprises seven saunas, among them the newer GreatSpa Sauna with a panoramic view over Baden-Baden, a forest-themed Waldsauna and a Sanarium. It also includes a whirlpool, foot baths and plunge pools, and sauna masters lead scheduled infusion and aroma ceremonies during the day.
Wellness and dining
The spa offers wellness and beauty treatments, with that area open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, and provides on-site gastronomy. It holds a five-star rating from Wellness Stars Deutschland.
