Minara

Minara is the town-run indoor and leisure pool of Bad Dürrheim, on Schabelweg at the edge of the town centre, operated by the municipal Kur- und Bäder GmbH. Indoors it is built around a 25-metre swimmer pool with a depth range from 0.60 to 3.80 metres and a diving tower carrying boards at 1, 3 and 5 metres, kept at 28 degrees; beside it a toddler pool runs warmer, at 32 degrees. There is no sauna, no brine bath and no thermal water here despite the town's status as a brine spa: those belong to the separate Solemar. The indoor catering is a vending machine in the lounge.

The outdoor part opens in the warm months and is where the leisure equipment sits: a 46-metre water slide with its own landing pool, a water playground, and a children's landscape with a climbing frame, a sand play house, a slide and a double cable ride. A wide artificial beach provides the sunbathing space, and there is a beach volleyball court and a basketball court for anyone not in the water; a kiosk selling chips, currywurst and drinks opens daily from 11:00 in fine weather. There is no outdoor swimming pool: the council decided in January 2018 to carry out the refurbishment without reinstating the former Freibad, and it has not returned. Admission is modest by German standards at 6 euro for adults and 4 euro for children aged 3 to 17, with a family ticket at 13.50 euro, an eleven-visit card at 60 euro and an annual card at 219 euro; entry is free on your birthday, and a summer-holiday pass for ages 3 to 17 costs 44 euro, or 28 euro for children resident in Bad Dürrheim.

The building was fully refurbished between September 2019 and August 2021 and reopened that September, at a net cost of about 7.88 million euro, roughly 7.43 million of it after grants. The work paid off technically - electricity use fell 52.6 per cent between 2018 and 2025, gas use 34.6 per cent - but not commercially, and the operator publishes the numbers plainly: about 244,000 euro of operating income against about 875,000 euro of operating cost in 2025. Attendance, some 145,200 visits in 2001 and 64,700 in 2018, has recovered only to about 46,600 in 2025. In June 2026 the council therefore opened a public review of the pool's future. It expressly did not vote to close it; an interim conclusion is due on 17 December 2026 and a final decision by June 2027, with alternatives on the table ranging from a supporters' association or a private operator to conversion of the site. Schools, clubs and the DLRG between them use roughly 28 hours a week, and the pool is open to the public around 62.7 hours a week.
