Aqualon Therme

Aqualon stands on the German bank of the High Rhine in Bad Säckingen, a short walk from the Swiss border. The operator describes its water as mineral water of the Hochrheintherme fed by two springs, the Badquelle and the Fridolinsquelle, reaching the pools at 32 to 34 degrees; the database records a borehole of 1,000 metres and a source temperature of 34. Six basins share roughly 1,000 square metres of water surface across indoor and outdoor areas. The house also runs swimming courses and aqua fitness classes in the warm water, and the therapy indications it serves are musculoskeletal.

The indoor pool is fitted with neck showers, and the outdoor pool, held at 32 degrees, adds massage jets, bubble loungers, a current channel and a bubbling cove, with a lawn for sunbathing in the warmer months and lighting that changes the mood after dark. The most distinctive basin is the Japanese pavilion, filled with 34-degree water from the Fridolinsquelle and built as a tribute to Nagai, the town's Japanese twin. Two further pools belong to a natural bath: they are unheated and free of chlorine and other chemicals, which the operator recommends to guests with sensitive skin, and one of the two is reserved for textile-free bathing by sauna guests.

Five saunas are listed with their temperatures. The Schwarzwald sauna at 60 degrees, panelled entirely in fir and worn in swimwear, belongs to the textile bathing area and is covered by the ordinary bath ticket. The separate sauna world divides into two parts. The Japanese sauna village consists of two sauna houses set around a rectangle, with the Maiban herbal sauna at 60 degrees and 30 per cent humidity, known for singing-bowl infusions, and the Asa-Hi herbal sauna for hotter, more intense sessions; a koi pond, a shower house, a meditation and rest house, a tea house and a Japanese garden with a lounging deck fill the space between them. The three-sauna house holds the Salzstein sauna at 70 degrees, walled in salt blocks, the Schweizerblick sauna with a large panoramic window, an upper terrace and a rest room of rattan loungers, and the Schwarzwald sauna as its third cabin. Infusions run hourly from 13:30 to 20:30 every day, poured with pure essential oils and fanned in the traditional way.

The bath is open daily from 9 to 22 and the sauna from 12 on weekdays and from 10 at weekends and on public holidays, both admitting guests until an hour before closing; only 24, 25 and 31 December are closed. A day ticket costs 20 euros on weekdays and 22 at weekends, with cheaper morning and evening tickets, family tickets, multi-entry cards and a version bundled with a regional transport pass. Alongside the water the site houses a fitness studio, wellness and massage rooms, physiotherapy, podiatry and doctors' practices. Since 1 July 2025 the operating company has belonged to Rehaklinikum Bad Säckingen GmbH, which states that opening hours, services and existing contracts are unchanged.
