Marienbad

MarienBad is the municipal leisure bath of Bad Marienberg in the Westerwald hills of Rhineland-Palatinate, run by MarienBad GmbH at Bismarckstraße 65, 56470 Bad Marienberg. It is not connected with Mariánské Lázně, the Czech spa town whose German name is also Marienbad; the operator titles its own home page “Willkommen im MarienBad in Bad Marienberg im Westerwald”. The operator makes no claim of a thermal or mineral spring and publishes no water analysis: this is a heated freshwater leisure bath, not a spa on a source. The only water temperature it states is for the main hall, and it states it as an energy-saving measure — “Die Wassertemperatur im Aktivbad beträgt 29° C”.

The indoor bath is subdivided into basins the operator lists individually rather than totalling: the Aktivbad, a Bewegungsbad for gymnastics, an Außenbecken and a Babybecken, with a Textilsauna (a Sanarium for sauna beginners) attached to the swimming hall. The Aktivbad is described as a water world with indoor and outdoor basins and attractions including a 12-metre double slide for adults and children, a current channel and a parent-and-child area, with massage and neck jets, a sun terrace and a lawn. The outdoor basin is out of use for the whole of 2026: “Das Außenbecken bleibt 2026 geschlossen!”, because a comprehensive general refurbishment with a planned extension is due and repairs to the outdoor basin are being bundled into it. The rest of the bath remains open.

The sauna area is presented as a sauna landscape on three levels with an indoor section and a Finnish sauna village, and the operator gives its extent as more than 3,000 m2 (“genießen Sie auf über 3.000 m² die Entschleunigung der Zeit”), with original Kotas in the open-air part. The cabins named are a Kelo sauna, an infusion sauna described as a Löyly sauna, a Sanarium, a steam bath, a Kota sauna and a Salzscheune running a banya ritual; individual cabin temperatures are not published on the sauna overview. An infusion schedule is offered for download. Alongside the water there is a wellness and day-spa department with massages and cosmetic treatments, a restaurant, a sauna bar, and a motorhome park next to the bath.

Regular hours are given in a table: the swimming pool opens Tuesday to Friday 09:00–21:00 and Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 09:00–21:00, while on Mondays it runs 09:00–13:00 and is then reserved for the DLRG lifesaving association. The sauna village opens Tuesday to Friday 13:00–22:00 and at weekends and on holidays 09:00–21:00; Tuesday is a women's sauna day, and as a further energy measure “Das Saunadorf bleibt montags geschlossen.” Lane swimming on roped-off lanes is offered Tuesday to Friday from 18:00 and at weekends and on holidays from 19:00. Published admission for the Aktivbad is 7.10 € for adults, 5.40 € for young people aged 6 to 17 and 3.20 € for children aged 3 to 5, with a family ticket for two adults and three children at 22.50 € and a reduced evening rate of 5.40 € from 19:00 Tuesday to Friday; the sauna village costs 22.70 € for adults and 18.00 € for children and young people. The operator also runs the separate FreiBad Unnau, whose 2026 summer season has ended.
