Limes-Therme is a thermal mineral bath in Bad Gögging (part of Neustadt an der Donau, Bavaria), drawing certified medicinal water from a depth of 498 metres. It combines roughly 1,300 m² of indoor and outdoor pools with a 1,500 m² Roman-themed sauna complex and a 2,000 m² wellness area.
About
Limes-Therme is a thermal spa in Bad Gögging, a district of Neustadt an der Donau in Bavaria, Germany. The complex brings together thermal mineral bathing pools, a large Roman-styled sauna landscape, a wellness area, and medical and preventive health services on one site at Am Brunnenforum 1.
The water
The spa is supplied by thermal mineral water drawn from a depth of 498 metres. The site states the water carries eleven minerals and has a therapeutic effect. The bath is recognised as a certified medicinal facility, and its water is associated with benefits for circulatory, musculoskeletal, rheumatic, and skin conditions; its mineral profile includes chloride, fluoride, hydrogen carbonate, sodium, and sulphur. The main thermal water is served at up to about 36°C.
Pools
The bathing area covers roughly 1,300 m² of water surface. Around 700 m² lies outdoors, spread across six basins, while about 600 m² is indoors across ten basins. Water temperatures across the pools range from 28°C to 36°C, and the outdoor basins are kept to a maximum depth of 1.35 metres. Four of the outdoor basins are filled with thermal mineral water, and there is a 25-metre swimmer's pool with a backstroke lane for lap swimming. Additional water features include a flow channel, bubble pools, a warm-and-cold foot-wading pool, and a neck-shower jet.
Römer-Sauna
The sauna area, called the Römer-Sauna, measures 1,500 m² and is housed in a reconstructed Limes tower with a Roman bathhouse. It is a clothing-optional area. Its cabins and heat rooms span a wide temperature range, including the Arena-Sauna (Laconicum I) at 90°C, an herbal-scent peeling steam bath at 40–50°C, a Caldarium at 40–50°C, a Sudatorium at 60°C, and two Laconicum rooms at 80°C, alongside a milder Tepidarium at 20–25°C. The complex also has an outdoor pool, a large atrium, and a rest pavilion. The Römer-Sauna opened in 1999, was expanded in 2017, and the site reports it has drawn more than half a million visitors.
Wellness & treatments
A wellness concept called Terra-Vitalis covers around 2,000 m². It offers vital baths, body peelings, a Rasul mud bath, and AquaCycling, along with a Dead Sea salt grotto with 45-minute sessions built with salt-brick walls. Beauty treatments, a solarium, and on-site catering are also available.
Health & prevention
Beyond bathing, the spa provides medical, therapeutic, and preventive services. These include computer-guided back analysis, preventive courses eligible for health-insurance subsidies, rehabilitation sport, and further medical-therapeutic applications.
