About

The Königliche Kristall-Therme is a thermal bath in Schwangau, in the Bavarian Allgäu, Germany. It is a large spa combining brine-rich pools, an extensive sauna landscape and dedicated relaxation and wellness areas, built around thermal water classified as a certified medicinal water.

The water

The thermal water is a mineral water carrying iodine and iron, and it reaches a temperature of about 37 °C in the warmest pools. Across the different basins the salt (sole) concentration varies widely, from around 1.5 percent up to 24 percent, so bathers can move between gently mineralised and highly saline water. According to the venue, the pools are prepared in several distinct ways, including an outdoor Alpentherme pool set up following the ideas of Hildegard von Bingen, and the fresh-water supply is additionally treated using GRANDER technology.

Pools & saunas

The spa offers roughly 1,300 m² of water surface spread across about ten pools, indoors and outdoors. Indoor basins include the Königsbecken, Ludwigsbecken, a Natron pool, a pool-bar basin and a Hildegard-von-Bingen pool, with water temperatures broadly in the low-to-mid 30s up to around 37 °C. Outdoor water includes a current channel, the Alpentherme and highly concentrated 12 percent and 24 percent sole basins. The sauna area comprises five saunas, three indoors and two outdoors, with sauna temperatures ranging from about 60 to 100 °C, plus two steam baths (around 45–48 °C and 50 °C) and a Hammam-style Ottoman bath.

Facilities

The wellness area covers roughly 14,000 m² and provides more than 900 loungers, a gemstone (Edelstein) relaxation room and themed gardens. Food and drink are served at several restaurants, a café and a pool bar, and spa and massage treatments are available on site.

The venue reports being open 364 days a year. Opening hours are Sunday to Thursday from 09:00 to 21:00 and Friday and Saturday from 09:00 to 22:00, with adjusted hours over the Christmas and New Year period.
